    Geist

I got this on saturday and have been playing it quite alot today, I've really been enjoying it despite its obvious flaws. There is actually very little shooting required, which is good, because the shooting its pretty ****e. The visuals are generally very good other than the odd chug in the Framrate, the sound is a mixed bag, sometimes sounded like metroid prime, other times sounding like the "cracked by" screen on an old amiga game.

When you say little shooting - WTF do you actually have to do then?

First half is definitely better than the second imo, a lot more shooter sections are packed in towards the end which are made endlessly frustrating by the sloppy, incredibly imprecise controls.

A lot is just about progressing to different areas - you'll need a certain character to access a certain section. You can only possess someone once they're sufficiently scared though, so working out the means of scaring someone bulks out a lot of the earlier game.

the thing i'd like to know is if there is more than one option in scaring someone sufficiently to be able to posess them. i hate it to be a one trick pony per person, i would be great if you could experiment with different options as such.

and also, how long can you stay in ghost form for? i heard there was a time limit of sorts, which is disappointing.

I'm afraid it's fairly linear in the respect of scaring people - it starts to feel like a point and click type game where you need to do exactly the right thing in order to carry on, even though in your own mind there are other ways of logically progressing. It can get pretty annoying when there are objects that you've possessed before that you can no longer possess simply because it's not the "correct" way of doing things.

As a ghost you do have a health bar that gradually decreases, but it goes down so slowly that I wasn't entirely sure it was actually decreasing to begin with. It replenishes whenever you possess something or consume one of the plentiful plants anyway. I think I only ever died once as a ghost and that was because I forgot to pause it when I went to get a freeze pop. Needless to say, it's hardly a game ruiner in any respect.

I'm starting to get to the more shooty bits, some of it is incredibly lame, the motocycle comes to mind.

I'm not sure cos I don't have any friends, but i tried it with bots and it showed potential for one day when I have friends. You have teams of hosts and ghosts, ghost have to posses the hosts and kill them, by throwing them into pits, onto spikes etcetera and the hosts have to kill the ghosts.

What the hell was all the extra development time used for?? It sounds as if they done nothing, cause I have heard nothing but poor reports of a very linear and awful game so far.

Nintendo have really disapointed with the first party Cube lineup , and the odd good game does not make up for alot of the tripe they have released on the console as a whole. I expect better from a company who is clearly alot more capable.

Nintendo didn't make Geist IIRC, it was N-Space. Who have made 1 other game I know of but can't remeber, and was rubbish.

What I mean by first party output is the stuff published by Nintendo, sorry I was not clear with that.

The in house stuff has all been spectacular, the published stuff....not good enough.

it counts as in house now, they bough n-space. god knows why, the only games they have made are that ****e duke nukem one, a mary kate and ashley game and a rugrats game.

I'm quite enjoying it so far, it definately needed even longer in development though, the music is truly aweful, and the animation is quite often suspect
