It's definetly a visual step up from X2. So far I prefer the new menus. Its as bewilderingly complex to begin with as I remember X2 being.

The patch is a fair size 80mb i think.

I downloaded it before i got the game (i dont have broadband)
Heard the actual released game was quite broken.Dont know if its true though

I really loved the music in kingdom end

What difficulty did you start of ish?

Yeah I downloaded the patch before starting.

        I started on Normal.

It does stutter a little in combat when there's a tonne of stuff going on but quite playable so far.

The combat model still feels a little on the wooden side. Like your flying a brick. And call me a graphics whore but the improved visuals really do make this a lot more appealing looking than X2 which at times was a bit on the amateauish side.

I really loved the graphics of the planets

Instead of in x2 where you would feel like you were in deep space now it feels more like your in orbit with the planets

You can really see the shaders at work on things too. Excellent. Just had my second round of combat. Felt more fluid than the first. Should be a good weekend

Is anyone having a problem with there ship drifting to the left when using a joystick? Sometimes and for no apparent reason my ship starts behaving as if I'm holding the joystick slightly to the left. It's perfectly centred and if I check its calibration its all calibrated correctly.

I dont use a joystick for so sorry cannot help

Just found out capturing ships is different then before. When the enemy leaves the ship. You have to leave your ship approach within 30 mtrs then open up the target menu and claim it then you can have control of it.

Seems a bit long winded to me

Also one complaint i have is repairing the ship costs far to much

Sorry I don't want to get off-topic but since I've keep hearing so many people saying freespace 2 is brilliant, could someone tell me why exactly?

Thing is I've got it sitting in my collection somewhere but never got round to playing it.

Is it worth rooting it out and giving it a go?

Well the combat is quite fun

But i would probably see it as being very limited even games like colony wars for the psone had more freedom

It is very linear. But at the time it had awesome graphics. And even now the flight model is just beautiful. Oh and the capital ships - when they get going on each other and your in the middle. Fantastic

Basically its like being in the middle of an episode of Babylon 5 in the middle of the shadow wars. Thats the highest compliment I can pay it

Definetly give it a go. I was playing it recently and it still holds up as a decent game today.

One thing I'm finding a big improvement over X2 though it has nothing to do with the game: having a laptop as well as my PC to play it on. It means I can take detailed notes on prices and stuff.

Why not use a pen and paper you might well ask!! I can't read my own handwriting its that bad

Thanks for the comments guys on Frees[ace 2. Sounds fun, I haven't played a space game properly since I-War. I'll have a search for it.

Regarding Colony Wars, blimey I hope its better then that! Played the first few missions and I thought it was dire.

Anyway, back with the X3 love.

I've changed to easy mode this morning and to be honest am finding it a lot more enjoyable. Having some cash and a half decent ship to start with makes it much more of a pleasure to play.

Sorted my joystick problems by installing the Saitek drivers. Previously I was relying on the Windows drivers which have been fine on other games but not this.

Its great to get stuck into a decent space trading game again

had a quick go and managed to tear myself away from civ 4. First thing that hit me are the graphics, my god they're stunning! along with the musical score it was aweinspiring.

I might have to crank them down a tad as its chugging slightly when i meet go into battle (of which ive had two so far :P) going to wait until i get a decent joystick, any recommendations on joysticks?

quick question some guy popped up and said meet me at this temple orbitting the planet so i flew towards it but god knows how i dock i tried shift d and it said no available etc. Eventually i tried to fly in myself but ended up getting stuck in it (bit of a bug there!) and then blew up
