Mario & Luigi 2: Partners In Time

Literally fired this up for 20 minutes and everything I initially loved about the first SP adventure came flooding back when I fired this up, everything that you loved about SS appears to be present and correct - the humour, the combat mechanics, story, dialogue and the typical, Nintendo, archetype bizarre worlds you find yourself in.

The combat mechanics are pretty much the same as before, push A to select an enemy, push it again to attack and time the final press again to inflict more damage. Similarly, you can dodge and counter enemy attacks by pressing A at the right time.

In anycase, I now find myself in Hollijolli Land and I've just been acquainted with my inventory, a useful looking suitcase called Stuffwell.

    Onward bound...

    also played about 30 mins

more of the same charm wit and general inventiveness of the first one, yet to see any of the really clever 2 screen stuff.

Completed the first one while on holiday in the maldives and aim to do the same with this one.

    class so far though

I somehow never got round to buying the first one; how is the combat in comparison to Paper Mario on the 'Cube?

Movietyme have this for ?23 so it's veeery tempting.

If it's like the first Mario & Luigi, then it's very, very similar to Paper Mario.
The battle system's almost identical, as are the puzzles around the world and how you interact with them.
There are some differences, but in effect it's quite close.
Not that it's a bad thing, mind. The amount of character and humour in those games dwarfs most RPGs from a great, great height.

Exploring is much more fun in M and L than in Paper Mario, which had much less inventive platform sections, and less variety.

It's superb - comical, colourful & fun; if you've played the first game then you'll be right at home here. It may take a couple of seconds to adjust to the joint bros/baby attacks, but that's it - there's a fair bit of hand-holding at the start of the game as well, so anyone who hasn't played Superstar Saga will get the hang of it quickly as well. I'm not hugely interested in turn-based combat, but I find it to be inventive & entertaining in this series.

If you didn't like Superstar Saga, there's not much here that will alter your view - if you loved the first game though (& I did) you'll be in hog heaven with the DS outing.

Sounds good! I enjoyed Paper Mario, but to honest I found it pretty linear and I was getting bored towards the end.

I just got it too and played through the first few sections. It's as wonderful as the GBA original was, and another top quality DS game.

Honestly there are so many good games around at the moment it's really getting tough finding time to play them all.

The kids got me this for Christmas, what with this and ACWW its going to be a long month.
I loved the first game, the different poses for the passport photos was inspired.
I suppose its to much to hope that this one will be better.

The hub area is horrible though. Game feels much much more linear than the first game, although I feel that the script's funnier moments are more memorable than the first game's.

Played this for about 2 hour so far and really loving it. Not played Superstar Saga so can't comment on how they compare, but I know between this, Mario Kart and Animal Crossing my Xmas holidays are going to be dominated by the DS!

Any rough estimates for time taken to play to completeion?

Just gotten the two shards back from little Bowser on the Yoshi's Island, and now you have a choice of where to go. I think. Gadd doesn't give you any specifics about where to go next, you can choose. Any suggestions? There's one at the top of the castle, one in the sewers (plus a cameo from someone we know heh...
