Vile Lair is useful to cure vampirism, but most of it is crippled as you need vast sums of gold to open it all up.

Shivering Isles is obviously by far the biggest DLC yet, and it's excellent.

I never got Knights of the Nine, did anyone else? Is it worth the points?

The Knights of the Nine quest was pretty big so represented decent value for money, plus it zeros your infamy, which was handy for me as mine was massively above my fame

I'm quite far into the Shivering Isles quests now - I really quite like the voice acting of Sheogorath, and the quest path throws up some interesting twists - though one of the fetch quest's dungeons drives you insane :/ - or maybe that's the point.

Three achievements left to get and it's taken about 10 hours so far ( taking me to 183 hours in Oblivion ) including a number of side quests I did there before the main part, so I don't think it's going to be anywhere near the claimed 30 hours, although I haven't been in many of the extra dungeons yet.

seems like if you set in the main menu with everything to max it still nowhere near the level of detail as in that vid
Yeah maybe you're right, though it does look splendid if you can max it out with HDR lighting enabled aswell. I suppose they had their video running at a high resolution too perhaps?

I'm not a big fan of pimping out my horse for instance but are there any extra levels or whatever to download?
Knights of the Nine is worth the effort. Lots of things to do and a good storyline. Decent weapons, loot and armour

Mehrun's Razor is worth it for the weapon you get (Mehrun's Razor) and the vast amount of loot inc some excellent thief/rogue armour.

If you are getting Shivering Isles though I understand the weapons and loot available there will surpass the above DLC.

anyone see the one week footage before it was released? that was stunning had a great view distance and looked really good

anyone know what setup that was running on?
May have been a modded version Eastyy. Lots of mods are avalable which enhance just about everything in Oblivion.
Or maybe it was just running at 1900x1200. Oblivion's graphics seem to move up a notch when run at filthy resolutions.
My PC, 6700 Core Duo with SLI ATI 1950s just loves it when 1900x1200 is on display. 2GB 800MHz RAM is a must also.

Fileplanet is your friend for mods btw

What are the best mods you have found? I'd like it if I could improve the visuals and performance over the standard game aswell as add well implemented game play mods too.

Completed the Shivering Isles quest, took about 12 hours in the end, but it would seem that the Duke of Dementia and Duke of Mania achievements are mutually exclusive unless you go through the quest twice

( you have to choose which one you want to become )

                - that sucks ass considering you'd have to repeat a massive chunk of S.I. quests to get it :/

Oh, it also doesn't make any sense that you still get bounty once you've completed the SI expansion, given that you're the lord of the shivering isles. It also now seems I no longer have the option of clearing the bounty, I either have to go to the graveyard ( which doesn't clear bounty ) or fight the guards, which again increases my bounty in the Shivering Isles.

There are also quite a number of other silly bugs that should have been noticed, such as the Dawnfang/Duskfang sword losing its hotkeying when it changes its form.

I feel so inferior- I'm 115 hours in and only a level 18...

Seriously though, to Sean and those who haven't tried it yet, give it a whirl and you won't regret it. I'm not an RPG player at all really and I only picked Oblivion up because I had a shiny new 360 and new games were fairly thin on the ground at the time. I didn't really know what to expect, having not followed any of the pre-release hype, but bugger me- it's amazing. For me the game of 2006 by a country mile. The sheer scale of the gameworld and scope of what you can do and how you just want to go about playing the game is extraordinary.

It looks beautiful, it plays and moves great- no stodgy, boring turn-based bollocks here- and it's always a different experience. You can do exactly what you want to do from game to game.

A fantastic, mind-bogglingly massive achievement of a game. I just don't know how the developers managed to create such a complete experience. There is always something new, literally every time you play.

And with that, I'm off to get stuck into Shivering Isles.

Listening to the new 1up show revealed to me that you need to wait a day and then people start talking about rumours of a new island surfacing...

360 mate, Shivering Isles is fantastic and won't be on PS3 for ages.

There are loads of mods Supergoal. They range from weapon mods to nude chars to new housing to pets and followers to total reworks. Too many to list. I've used Ren's Beauty Pack to create some good looking characters. I'll post one later.

Martigan's Monster Pack is worth a look also. Avoid Oscuro's total mod unless you want a real man's challenge, it it said to up the difficulty quite a bit.

Here's a better link to the mods section. Each mod list has pics and a good description of what is does.

                              Spoiled for choice you are.

Got this at the weekend, not played it yet.
I know literally nothing about the game, in fact until about 4 days ago I was convinced it was a mmorpg! Having a quick scan of the massive instruction manual it looks to be pretty comprehensive. Any tips on what sort of character I should start of as?
                                I am, as you say, a n00b.
