I too am toying with getting this again (I had the PC version on first release but it hurt my poor machine) after reading all these posts.

I need to get the Asian X360 version but kept putting off buying it at PA earlier this week. When I read about the 20 per cent off in the Bargains thread yesterday, I swooped over to PA and the bastard is out of stock!

I might get the PS3 version instead.

            Well described.

One thing to add, you have the choice of playing it first person, or third, although I believe the game was designed as first person...... and you will find it much easier to aim spells and arrows using first person, but melee/sword combat I find easier in third person (personally).

It's called an RPG, but it's very much an action adventure game.

The combat isn't going to win any awards, but there's plenty of depth to how you want to approach the game, which is the meat of its appeal. It really does just place you into a fantastic, lush fantasy world and let you get on doing your own thing. Absorbing, engrossing, Oblivion was the tied for game of 2006 for me along with Twilight Princess, and I still value it as the best game to come out on the 360, despite my constant love/hate affair with how things break in it now and again.

Yes, but with a lot of difficulty. The Oblivion character generator verges on the side of "hit by the ugly tree".

The closest I got was the character in the attachment, she took me ages and I borrowed heavily from a template for the PC version.

The most disturbing thing about the characters in Oblivion to me is the fact their heads seem to have been lopped off and reattached at the neck. :P The seams are nearly always visible.

You should check out some of the character models that are paraded over at the Bethesda forums, they're stunning. Obviously with the aid of mods.

OK I've borrowed a US copy of the PS3 version of Oblivion and compared it with the 360 version which is hooked up by VGA (PS3 in HDMI)

What I've seen so far the 360 version looks better. The texture distance on the ground is better on the on the PS3 version, but all the trees look grainy and it's more jagged overall (alaising). I noticed slight slow down on the PS3 version in the sewer where there were nearly none on the 360 version.

I know the video you're on about, but I don't think for it's that hard to achieve now. For the fairly high end user and not top end users of PCs, you can now run the game maxed out just like that in the video. My rig can have everything maxed out, full draw distance, full trees, full foliage, everything. It looks supurb even with a high frame rate well above 30 all the time.

did it have some special config though ?

seems like if you set in the main menu with everything to max it still nowhere near the level of detail as in that vid

What sort of downloadable content is worth getting guys?
I'm not a big fan of pimping out my horse for instance but are there any extra levels or whatever to download?
