I know the feeling. I unknowingly dropped my Umbra sword and gave up hope of ever seeing it again but... by sheer chance was fortunate enough to stumble across it some 80 hours later. Similarly, shortly after buying the horse armour extra content, I lost Shadowmere and, again, through luck alone, found her some 3 or 4 months later standing on a mountain side. But to answer your question, there are maps available that chart the Pilgrim's Way on a handful sites dedicated to Oblivion.

The biggest criticisms of this game are:

loading times - driving me bananas - indeed it puts me off playing it sometimes

lack of being able to look through maps of dungeons you've visited as wel as a lock of putting notes etc in the maps - for such a massive game I feel this feature is crucial - I've got no odea which dungeons I've cleared - where I've left unopened chests etc

combat for me is a bit arbitrary - but it could just be my severe lack of skill

The icons on the map change if you discover them - it's not obvious, but they go from clear to opaque like the HUD does when you're sneaking. Of course that doesn't mean you've actually been inside, but you'd be able to tell that from the inner layout map, because it would be fog-of-war on you when you go inside the dungeon, if you've never been there before. Oh, and you can't warp to dungeons you've not discovered either.

It would have been useful to be able to leave notes against it though - or changed the icons if you'd been inside them.

There are some map mods for the PC version.

I'm just caning through the main quest for the first time and am finding it incredibly difficult to continue. Not because it is too hard, or anything like that, but because the 'Allies For Bruma' quest is so, SO tedious.

I'm assuming it'll be worth it if I finish it, right? It is optional, after all.

Do all the dungeons and caves look the same? I'm finding it disappointing how little variety there is in the interior locations in general (churches, shops etc) but trudging through identical looking dungeons over and over is especially bad.

            Other things I hate:

Most of the destruction spells look the same, one you've seen one of each element you've seen them all.

Conjuration won't let you summon more than 1 creature.

Enemies don't physically react when you hit them unless you manage to stagger them.

Nowhere near enough voice actors and the AI seems quite poor.

I still really like the game but you can see what the costs of having such a large world are.

Yeah, I love the game but there are a few things that spoil it. As you say, not enough voice actors spoils the immersion somewhat, thats my main gripe with the game. My other is a lot the characters faces look pretty bad, some almost comical. The dungeons don't bother me too much, but I know what you mean, alot are the same, the same goes for the churches. Apart from the usual loading niggles, I think its one of the best games of its type.

If your finding it tedius then I'd give it up, you don't exactly get sent armies of men to help you out once you've completed it !

I finished Shivering Isles last night, massive expansion pack but I found the constant dungeons a little unrewarding. I was already a super powered git so it was such a breeze, still, good value for money even if it SHOULD be reduced in price now.

I'm just about to complete the Thieves guild quest line all I have to do now is wait for the Countess to come out of her living quarters. I suppose I will just hang around for a bit then...
I only have the Arena to complete from the original game then crack on with the rest of the Knights of the Nine quest. I have to visit all the Wayshines again since do the last few Thieves quests is apparently not a nice thing to do! and the gods don't like it.
Then I will start with the Shivering Isle so plenty more for me and I've already clocked over 176 hours...

God I've not played this for a long while, would love to get back into it again. Considered putting it on there but it's such a nice day I'd feel bad for sitting in playing Oblivion all day.

I'm 140 hours in too, haven't anything but the Thieves Guild too! So plenty left to probably keep me occupied for another 140 hours!!

Yeah, it'd help if there was more variety but that was one of the things which impressed me. It felt as though time had been spent modelling houses intricately with the object set which had been developed, instead of a cut and paste style job (thinking Shenmue/Kowloon apartments here).

I finally put this back on last night, to try and finish off the last half of the thives guild and then the whole dark brotherhood, and finally put this game to bed. Can't see it happening now Bioshock has arrived though !

For me the Thieves guild quests seem to take longer to complete than any other faction, especially the later ones. Maybe its all the fencing you have to do and sneaking about not being aloud to kill anyone.
I also have Bioshock to play now although the post van came today and the girlfriend was out shopping! Nevermind...

If it's taken you 140 hours to just do the thieves guild mate, you could rack up nearer 500 hours when all is said and done.

My fully achieved 1250/1250 save file is 83 hours.
