I've been trying to get back into this recently but I'm struggling a little. I played the main quest (And a couple of the guilds) to completion on my Mage back when I had it on the 360, then when I picked up the vanilla PS3 version I decided to go fully stealth/marksman. But I left it when I sold the vanilla version in anticipation of the GOTY... and that was months ago so picking it up again is proving tricky.

I might start again. Sad as it is, I think I enjoyed the way I levelled on the 360 version more than they way I'm playing it this time. When I played through it initially I meticulously planned my levelling/attributes whereas this time I'm just levelling as I do stuff.

I love this game. I completed the main quest, all the guilds and the Knights of the Nine last year. But since I was playing it every night and I had other games to play I haven?t touched it in months. I will go back to it soon. I think once I complete Bioshock this week and before I start with Stalker would be the ideal time. I have the Shivering Isle expansion to start and some minor quests to tie up from the main game.

Its reading forums like this that gets you back into the games you have?

I picked this up again last week, after about a year, and in an attempt to break my H3 addiction. Took half an hour or so to remind myself of how things worked, but I soon fell in love with the game again and have put about 15 hours into it since.

I left the game after about 90 hours play and with the thieves and dark brotherhood guild quests to finish to 1000 point the game. I've now made my way through the thieves guild and I'm now about half way through the Dark Brother hood missions, which I was right to leave to the end, as they are some of the best missions in the game. I'm now a vampire (which I did not think was possible as a wood elf) which seems rather apt for playing through the Dark Brotherhood quests, and does not limit you to much as you really want to be doing most of those at night. I certainly wouldn't of wanted to of become one any earlier though, especially considering what a pain in the arse it is supposed to be to get cured.

I have to say that this is probably my favourite game of this generation. I just love spending time in Cyrodyll and could burn days at a time in the game if my lifestyle permitted. I'm sure I'll eventually have more time played in H3, but Oblivion will always have a soft spot in my heart, and really does put Mass Effect to shame IMO ! (Sorry had to slip that in there)

They really are some of the best quests in the game. I didn't leave them to the end, I think it was after I had completed two of the guild quest lines but they are best left until at least this point.

I remember reloading a save game to avoid becoming a vampire. Didn't like it at all! I did start to find a cure but this is a massive fetch quest which at the time would have slowed down my progress on the main quest.

I started to play this again from the start after only giving it a couple hours before.. closed my first Oblivion gate and now have to take Boromir to some joint - i feel like i'm meant to be going off wandering though i'm not sure where.

              Anywhere! That's the whole point.

I know what you mean but like - am I just meant to wonder to a local town and just chat to people then do quests for them I guess ?

I had the same problem when I first played this.

Just wander around, exploring towns and dungeons and talking to people.

Talk to everybody. Some of them will give you quests others will like you/dislike you depending on your race. Just heading off in one direction you can find loads of places to explore.

Ok cool - going to leave the main quest for a bit then as I didn't particularly enjoy the closing of the first gate as all my weapons were totally ruined and I kept getting destroyed for some reason.

The way I played for the first 50 odd hours, was to pick up a quest in a town and then walk to where ever it took me. In walking I would always come across some sort of temple / cave / dungeon and then burn a couple of hours exploring the whole thing. Probably the most fun I've had playing the game, and it allows you to slowly build up your players stats and get some good weapons and armour in place, before you embark on the main quest.

I still remember early on going on one of my quest wanders, only to come across some sort of temple with bodies hanging on either side of the main door. It had to be investigated and so I ventured in side. After a while I started to notice allot of coffins all over the place and (I had no idea that vampires were in the game at this point) started to suspect that something unatural my be afoot in this place. Within moments I came across, battled and defeated my first vampire and then continued to purge their whole nest. One of my great Oblivion moments, really showed me how varied the game was going to be !

The moment I stepped out of that sewer; that's when I new it was going to be great!

Probably the best moments in a game I have played in years.

I just spent the next few minutes looking around thinking I can go anywhere I like

I remember being round Van's house and he fired this up. After 30 mins and the aforementioned sewer exit, I knew it was going to be superb. It just seemed to have such incredible freedom. I think I had a 360 within a fortnight, and just spent hours wandering around the countryside admiring the different areas and discovering caves, temples, etc.

I got the same high from doing that as I got from green orb hunting in crackdown. It was a case of, 'just over this one last hill,' for hours on end. For me, the blank map canvas was a hook that needed to be filled with discoveries. I've spent more time doing that than doing the main quest.

That gate is a nasty difficult spike early in the game (Most of the others are more straightforward), depending on how you end up levelling. Just remember that the difficulty slider is dynamic, so if it all gets too bad you can just turn it down a notch until you're done then throw it back up again.
