I never thought I'd say this, but I think Saint's Row is possibly better than GTA. I was impressed with the demo originally and I have to say, playing the full thing just extends my love for the game.
The customization at the start is superb, not particulary indepth like EA, however it isn't over complex and it's a nice way to create your own character with plenty of options avaliable. From what I can see however, the options aren't radically different from what was offered in the demo.
The movement of cars is slick, much better than GTA and on par with Just Cause. The movement on foot is slighty sluggish to begin with, however the shooting system is superb.
One thing that has impressed me in a small way is the radio stations, and how if you leave a car, it'll continue to play the station inside if you didn't turn the engine off. This works effectively say in the inital showdown with the guy on the beach, because you can hear the distinct sounds of the radio everytime you get close to the car (and the volume changes to make it more muffled) which was pleasing.
The radio stations themselves are varied, and have some good unofficial music, or you can just fire up your own using the media player inside the menu which is perhaps quicker than using the Xbox 360 dashboard one!
Again fitting in with the whole radio sound, if you hear an advert for a store, if you visit that place within 1 day of hearing the ad you'll get the discount on say a weapon as advertised which is also neat.
The mobile phone system is fantastic, calling holmies and other people you've meet to assist you. Finally the map itself is pretty decent, no loading in stores etc and there appears to be plenty to do.
I haven't played multiplayer yet because sadly no one is playing, but you can choose ranked or unranked matches, however I'll try and find someone to play with and report back on that.
Very good game though, get your preorders in
