    Saint's Row

I never thought I'd say this, but I think Saint's Row is possibly better than GTA. I was impressed with the demo originally and I have to say, playing the full thing just extends my love for the game.

The customization at the start is superb, not particulary indepth like EA, however it isn't over complex and it's a nice way to create your own character with plenty of options avaliable. From what I can see however, the options aren't radically different from what was offered in the demo.

The movement of cars is slick, much better than GTA and on par with Just Cause. The movement on foot is slighty sluggish to begin with, however the shooting system is superb.

One thing that has impressed me in a small way is the radio stations, and how if you leave a car, it'll continue to play the station inside if you didn't turn the engine off. This works effectively say in the inital showdown with the guy on the beach, because you can hear the distinct sounds of the radio everytime you get close to the car (and the volume changes to make it more muffled) which was pleasing.

The radio stations themselves are varied, and have some good unofficial music, or you can just fire up your own using the media player inside the menu which is perhaps quicker than using the Xbox 360 dashboard one!

Again fitting in with the whole radio sound, if you hear an advert for a store, if you visit that place within 1 day of hearing the ad you'll get the discount on say a weapon as advertised which is also neat.

The mobile phone system is fantastic, calling holmies and other people you've meet to assist you. Finally the map itself is pretty decent, no loading in stores etc and there appears to be plenty to do.

I haven't played multiplayer yet because sadly no one is playing, but you can choose ranked or unranked matches, however I'll try and find someone to play with and report back on that.

Very good game though, get your preorders in

Sounding good. Played the demo, but I'm still not sure I want to spend money on something I've already bought several times before. Or would you say it's significantly different from GTA to warrant a purchase?

I'm in about it purely for the xbox live play.

Good question. I don't think it warrants the ?50 price tag (but then again I say that about most games), however it does offer alot to do.

Aside from your main missions, plenty of submissions such as CD Collecting, Demolition Derby, Drug Trafficking, Escort, Hijacking, Hitman, Hold Ups, Hostage, Insurance Fraud, Loan Shark, Mayhem, Racing, Snatch, Tagging and Theft to name a few.

Maybe worth renting and seeing if you like it? It's not superb in the graphics department, but I'm finding it pretty fun.

Cheers for the thoughts. From what I've played of the demo, the hand to hand combat and aiming/feel of the guns are fantastic. Easily better than any GTA in that regard.

I think this game is going to be great fun, but only if you're prepared to take off your wank hat (c) consolevania.

I've just had a pretty intense showdown in the street, and its dark and the music in my car suits the scene a treat.

I'd got the Classic FM style station on, and the music was gaining more suspense and getting louder as the battle got more intense and it just made me smile and realised that classical music can suit some scenes a treat!

I can't find any evidence of a free-roam multiplayer mode. The multiplayer modes have levels rather than a big city.

The demo had a pretty poor frame rate at times - has that been rectified?

I don't understand why on my Jap 360, SR ran more poorly than it did on my bros UK 360...also, the bodies disappeared instantly on mine whereas on his they stick around. I even swapped over the HD's and the problem remained. Baffling...

Few problems. Nothing major though. Online co-op is good, but not amazing. Nothing what I expected anyway.

Slighty disappointed with the no flying vehicles or bikes, but still can't have it all.

You can with GTA, and that's what I find most disapointing about this. Never considered it as more than a stop gap to the next GTA, but the fact that they copied the earliest rather than the latest GTA is a little disapointing.

Still I'm sure I'll end with a copy, as some GTA is better than no GTA

Able to elaberate a bit more on the online play ? Not really grasping what it is all about if it is not freeroam !
