Stuck at the old man samurai boss, its ****ing impossible, any ideas?

He's just rock-hard unfortuantely. I found it helped to re-arrange my move set to a weaker but faster arrangement, as when he blocks you only get one chance to do a guard break before he counter attacks. You can also dodge all but one of his sword attacks (last one IIRC) by ducking, so I just ducked as many attacks as possible to charge up my tension guage and then unleash the God Hand.

Oh, BTW, don't bother with the roullete attacks unless you're desperate and he has hardly any life left. And only use powerful ones that need at least two-orb attacks like Dragon Kick or 100 Fists.

i always put on the most powerful attacks for the first few moves as the chances are the enemies would leap away or block before the later moves were used

I have to admi I only narrowly defeated him myself and was dumping it at the end of the fight. I had the tiniest sliver of health left and so did he, so I basically just unleashed the most powerful Routllete techniques I had in a blind panic to finish him off

I blew most of my orbs in the area before hand where they keep coming in waves, inside that upsidedown pyramid or whatever the hell it is, so just going to try get thro that area with bare fists alone, oohh boy :/

Had to have a break from this recently with so much going on but I gave it a spin yesterday and got to the samurai boss you folks have been talking about.

Now I know I keep going on about it, but why do people say this game is so hard? I beat him first time and I only had half my health when I went in and 2 orbs for the roulette techniques. Is the US version dumbed down? - i'm playing on normal, but so far I really can't say the games hard at all. And i'm usually a bit **** at this sort of game. I'm honestly very confused because i've heard enough that this game is supposedly rock solid, same as DMC3 which I certainly struggled with on normal. But in comparison, God Hand is pretty damn easy.

Maybe you're just crap and playing it with the green or blue skull all the time?

TBH some missions are easier than others. The longer ones tend to be harder because obviously you have to make the same amount of health last over more opponents and that can get quite hard, especially if you're good enough to keep going up to level 3 or higher. The change in difficulty between levels 2 and 3 is the most pronounced, but once you get to DIE! mode, it's ridiculously hard.

I'm hanging my head in shame here... didn't even understand the system.

I thought that just determined how much cash you got at the end of the stage. Mines often on level 3 mind, sometimes on level 2 - I never really manage to reach lvl 4/Die. Don't know what it was on for the samurai boss - probably 1 since I found him so easy!

In any case, ty for explaining things.

I think it explains the level system in the manual. Basically it's a dynamic difficulty feature. Things that make your tension guage go up, like dodging attacks, taunting or good combos, also charge up that little crescent-shaped meter next to the skull. If you go up a level the enemies get tougher but you also earn better rewards, i.e. they drop more money, better items and you get bigger bonuses at the end of the stage. Getting hit, especially by 'special' attacks (the ones where you need to wiggle the stick to escape for instance), has the opposite effect.

I never read manuals, but, aye, it all makes sense now, and i'm noticing that when i'm on level 3, things do pick up. Still, you do have to wonder why some reviews stress how difficult the game is, as if you're crap, you'll simply be playing on lvl's 1 and 2, which are pretty damn easy as I said. Obvioulsy IGN struggled with the game whilst on lvl 1. Maybe i'm not that bad.

Just wanted to say I finished this last night

The final couple of 'regular' battles were just absurdly hard but I think that was the idea, as in, not to be taken seriously. Then it's a boss rush followed by a classic boss-that-will-not-die type scenario. None of those were unduly hard and there were some good giggles to be had right up until the end.

It says a lot about this game that the extras you unlock when completing the game, plus the attraction of unlocking all the moves, means I'll almost certainly carry on playing this for a long time to come.

Started this last night - what a frikkin' awesome game. Without going over the whole thread :

Graphics I've seen so far (onto level 2) are pretty poor - Even for a ps2 game - example straight along with the wall by your side and watch it disappear in big chunks ><

                            Sound is good.

                            Game is FRIGGIN SWEET.

Nice system, love the categorisation of moves, the way of unlocking & purchasing new ones.

Still to get used to the roulette wheel and timing the god hand usage but outwith that I love it.

First few goes I was taking the drones down only to have that demon spirit rip out of one of them and batter me down - Right back to start again BUT it just didn't matter - it's one of those great games that's all about the system and how you use it - So it never became a chore.

I can't wait to get further into this

Aye and the cut-scenes are appalling and disjointed - but it just doesn't matter - £15 for this game system is money more than well spent.
