Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime - DS

So I've been playing this right. My first DQ, though as I understand this is an offshoot of the rpg series. This appears similar to the Zelda's appearing on the Nes/Snes/GB's, though I read (incorrectly?) that there's been a DQ like this before some time ago.

Anyway. The game struck me as very vibrant and...odd. It's really pleasent to see, everything is very smooth and the game world is full of Slimes. I guess I still can't believe how they managed to give so many Slimes so much individual personalilty. Little bastards are full of charm. It's a long way of from say, Banjo's world full crap with eyes on em'. Perhaps an unfair comparison. It's all so nicely animated too.

The game doesn't make the best use of the stylus, though it is really early days. I have a hunch this is gonna be a really nice little game. Don't know much about the story as of yet either (sorry!)

Guess I'll let you know more later.

And in a peculiar turn, most of the good guys talk like Kate Winslet.

Right. This games freakin nut's. Kidnappings, HUGE explosions, Slimes, dodgy accents and MASSIVE TANKS! I think this is sucking me in well and good. Too weird to miss out on anything else.

      And I'm off to bed.

Nah, it's an adventure title that compares to the Zelda games like I said. Really good, very inventive and a joy to play.

Put tons more time into this.

The tank battles are now adding some strategy elements. To start with your tanks aren't just regular tanks. Nah, these things dwarf small towns.

So, during a battle with an enemy tank, you have to manually load the ammo and fire it. Ammo comes in all shapes. You pick up ammo throughout the adventure portion of the game. Ammo does varying degrees of damage to boot. So you have two cannons. One fires skyward, raining down in an arch, while the other large cannon ahead.

Meanwhile the enemy is loading there cannons and shooting you. What happens is this, you can fire your own ammo to destroy there's mid flight. Also, you can fire yourself out of the cannon! Yep, you can infiltrate the rival tank and batter their computers and them. If you destroyed the tanks hull, you can aim for the heart. Destroying the heart wins the battle and lots of loot.

I've now got the option of having a crew. Different Slime's perform varying functions. Some will fire the guns, heal, infiltrate or defend. It's upto you to have a crew that suits your needs.

What's addictive though is finding all your Slime buddies. That's the aim ya' see. You wonder the map in search of em' The map tell's you how many Slime's are in each area, so it's compulsive to search out every nook. Chances are though, boss tanks carry a Slime.

                    Damn great game.

Shame there ain't many people playing this.

I've a feeling the adventure aspect to this game is short and sweet. To add though, there's a lot of replayability in that you can fight in a tournament against other tanks. There's a ranking and it's a large side quest. Also, there appear's to be a well which COULD be like Paper Mario's 100 room drop.

Finally, you can get new crew members (loads) by collecting 30 of each monster. Said monster will now be availible for use. There's an uber rare, ultra fast monster that would be real cool to have.

just had an hour on this last night and im hooked, never played any form of a dragon quest game and im loving this the charicters are so likeable and the story set up had me chuckling exploration is nice as is the item collecting aspect.

                          the intro is great too

when the enemy are kidnapping all the slimes and have a conversation over if your a slime or not then decide that your not and your a worm had me laughing to myself especialy when he flings you across the level saying "Eaughhhha a worm"

can see me really enjoying this

That sounds pretty sweet, I have been torn between collecting the monsters and defeating them, as getting on your back is pretty easy while attacking, but then you get no coins...
