I agree completely- I had another few goes at this last night, and stumbled across LOADS of branching points (hint: try heading up while wall running). The lack of route choice was my big bugbearer with SA1, but this is up there with S3&K in the demo...

Not got a 360, I was going to get a 360 for this mainly, but sod that, I'll get it for better games. :P

Why oh why can't SEGA do a 2D HD Sonic? With a 2D camera that zooms out when Sonic hits speed to avoid leaps of faith and zooms normal when at normal speed... With huge Mega Drive Sonic/Sonic Rush style stages using the the normal Zone/Act layout.... With Sonic CD style FMV as cutscenes between stages... And Sonic 2 style multiplayer over live and boards for time attacking... Bah! I wish!

Why? Because there is no need too.

SEGA can make a brilliant 3D Sonic, Sonic Adventure proved that. But they really need to focus on what makes Sonic in 3D so good, at present their in limbo for no real good reason.

Sonic's games since Sonic Adventure have been really below par of what SEGA are capable of. It reminds me of Mario Sunshine, Nintendo created a brilliant game in the form of Mario 64 and then released such a diffrent and convoluted game. It was by no means bad but a sequel which really underwhelmed and disapointed me.

Of course the final game could be miles better than the demo so that's my final thoughts intill I play it.

the demo is a mess. Sonic just doesn't do what i want him to do. and i can't really add anything to the already existing list of complaints. too bad there isn't much time to fix all of them. seems Sonic Adventure (DC) will stay my one and onl? 3D Sonic game for still some time.

The demo is the E3 build, so some of the complaints may have been fixed by now. Anyway.

I went into the demo with no expectations/VERY low expectations (after reading this thread), and even though it was short as ****, i enjoyed it. Although during the play, I did NOT touch the right analog stick, I left the camera alone. If I did need to change it, I change the direction Sonic faced, and pressed left trigger so that the camera would fix to the direction hes facing.

                What I liked:
                • Sense of Speed
                • Mutiple courses throughout the map
                • Sonic looked pretty cool.
                • Map design
                • Level feels big.
                • Different ways of travelling.
                What I disliked:
                • Camera is far too unresponsive, movement of the camrea needs to be sped up alot more.
                • The time between the homing attacks is too long (as you have to wait for sonic to do the flip animation from rebonding from attacking the enemy)
                • Map although big, didnt take hardly any time to complete.
                • Control scheme could be mapped out better.
                • Graphics lacking in some areas.

Because it would never sell for one 2D platform games are DEAD on home consoles we'll never see a 2D Mario let alone a 2D Sonic on a home console , It's like wishing for the good old days with 2D point and Click Adv onthe PC . Sure they were the best but they'll never happen in this day and age , becasue there's no market for them

Also get the game , Some of the knocking is over the top , those that say Sonic Heroes or Sonic Adv II are better than 1:30 odd min demo based on 40% complete code are pushing it just a bit.
Sure there's camera Issues , but my is it so hard to press the Left Trigger to fix the camera for the most part?, Lock on is the major area thats needs fixing , and I would like to hope thats already done.

If you like Sonic Adv I'm sure you like this. I thought Sonic Heroes and Shadow were pretty dire and SA II not too clever, but I've played the demo multi times and I've really enjoyed it, becasue it reminds me so much of SA

this is so the perfect specimen of a 2D franchise gone horribly wrong.

i would buy a next-gen 2D sonic game any day.

Just face it , it is as **** as SA 1 and 2 were, I expect alot more nowadays than this demo has offered.

and those people who say it may have improved, don't you think its more than a coicidence how similar this is to the previous games?
This demo could of been a hidden level in another game for all I know, thats how much it has in common with them.

They've just not bothered to fix the problems that were there

But thats thinking SA was sh8t which for me it wasn't , and still remains my fav Sonic game along with Sonic CD . In fact I've played that more than any Sonic game I have . It was so Sonic, fast action great set pieces and just super cool , with a ass kicking soundtrack.
For me Winddy Valley , Speed Highway are the best levels ever found in any SONIC game, running down Winddy Valley like being in a Roller coaster ride or down the side of a skyscraper, catching a ride on a helicopter or having a big Killer whale jump over your head is what a Sonic game should be all about

Maybe its just me, But Sonic, Rayman, Mario got thier 1st 3D outings spot on. Its been the follow ups that have been dire , with Sonic Heroes Mario SS and Rayman III being so poor

It was worse than Sonic Adventure from what I played. Made Otogi's camera system look masterful - and what's with the hugely oversensitive controls?

Sonic Adventure 2 was so 'on-rails' it was unbelievable. Me and my mate (GregMoss on here) both clocked it together on seperate Dreamcasts in the same room in one afternoon.

Seemed to get by with just holding down 'up' on the analog stick and pressing jump at the right times... or fall to my death through the level due to running too fast.

Sonic Adventure 1 was remembered as being ace until I played it again earlier this year. The music was good...

I'm not going to waste an hour of my time downloading and trying this out for myself. Not when there's gil to be made.

Don't get me wrong , Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 (I prefered 2 though) were both good fun to play, but there was no denying the flakey, glitchy, badly tested, glaring flaws that stuck out like a sore thumb on numerous occasions throughout both games.

I played both games to death, at the time they were graphically stunning and offered something a little different from other platformers.

Yeah sure it has the Sega logo and it has that music and sound effects that can bring even the most cold hearted gamers to tears, but 6 years on and they are essentially trying to sell us an expansion pack for ?50.
