    Monster Hunter Wilds: PC/PS5/Xbox

I'm in love with this game at the minute. I'm a simple soul. I bonk monster heads and arses, I repurpse their skin and fur into big ol weapons so I can bonk harder (oo-er).

I'm just chilling my way through the game. Going out into the map, exploring, gathering and bonking (really?). It's like Worlds, but more refined. The armour sets and weapons are great. This is what it's all about, right? The big ol fashion show! Nah, but seriously it is about the gear, as is the bread and butter of teaming up with friends or randoms to take down pesky wyverns and the like.

This time around I have chosen to go with the Gunlance and oh boy it loves to firecrack the poop out of monster bums!

Just really looking forward to getting back to the chilled grind.

Playing on PS5 Pro, I have settled on 'Frame-Rate' graphical mode, capped at 60FPS. The image is a little soft, but it's a big difference from the beta code which smeared pixel across my screen like they were made of Chappie (dog food).

    So so happy with this!

That sounds ace. Never played a MH game before but might dive in on this one.

Working my way through the story playing it all solo as the sos flare for MP leads to the fights being over in a couple of minutes. As for what to say about the story mode, back in worlds they at least gave you the freedom to scout fly your way to the quest giving the player the chance to see and experience the world, here in wilds i feel like im on autopilot for everything, cutscene after cutscene, forced slow raptor walk with dialogue and locked out controls one after the other along with annoying npc kid and MH's ewoks to look after while hunter guild play white survivor to the 'lesser cultures', how people of land survived this long with no hunters around doesn't make alot of sense.

If you want to experience what capcom built its best to just take up side assignments after each story bit and walk your way there than be taxied straight to the monster.

I've ended up straight lining the story, with the previous knowledge that any gear built in low rank is worthless and so far no monster has proved difficult having just reached HR5, as it feels like capcom definitely fiddled with the damage values where i feel i can easily get away just levelling up a couple of pieces for defence off the story monster i just killed and ignoring skills and resistances, and it's not like im a dodging/perfect block machine either, i've taken plenty of monster rage supers with half HP and lived (without blessing) which would have carted me for sure previously. Which makes sense if you want to get more new people through the door before the wall hits in high rank. Also strange the kitchen still isn't open 5 hours in.

Sorted most of the PC technical problems i've had following a few guides, the main one being turning off frame-gen and turning on forced nvidas global HDR/digital vibrancy settings (seems to be a problem of the game not seeing windows HDR settings). Doesn't fix the often seen poor textures.

I don't believe there is a kitchen anymore. You can visit your tent whip out the new improved BBQ anywhere. Here you can cook meat traditonally (with timing) or have access to the Grill a Meal menu.

Reached High Rank. Enjoyed fighting the last 2 story monsters, the 2nd to last fight went on abit and ended up rebreaking it over and over to point i had it's entire set (armour and weapon) after the fight.. went into the final fight looking like the God Emperor of Mankind, which worked well for the cutscene before the final fight, that did make me feel like a badass.

As for High Rank... im not a fan of being told off by Alma for attacking a monster on the map not in my 'Hunter Rank range' the game stops you attacking it, what a incredibly stupid idea to put in, really goes into this being Monster Hunter with Safety rails for idiots, fair enough for Low Rank but they should be off for High Rank, a true dumbing down if i've ever seen it. And as i've not seen it yet, much like the Kitchen i assume the Arena and preloaded equipment challenges are gone to, another stupid decision.

As for what to do now, build Hunter rank, pick up the after story missions, build every HR armour/weapon and get all the decos.

Also be interesting to see what they do for festivals, the default base looks really lame compared to hub of world/ice and rise.

Again, as I said above your post, there is no Kitchen - I read your comment, can you not read mine?

As for arena, this will eventually be unlocked by progressing the campaign.

Started this yesterday and I'm really enjoying it. First hour was of course spent making the perfect Hunter and Palico. I went for my usual cross between fat Vegas-era Elvis, Lee Van Cleef, and David Carradine out of Kung Fu. No Loli-Hunters here, thankyou! Palico was likely themed as an angry, mangy, worn-out old thing. Game systems/UI/tutorials were much smoother and better laid out than the beta, as was the weapons practice area, and I had an excellent couple of hours experimenting with the bow, gunlance and greatsword, and tweaking loadouts/radials. Had to force myself not to plump for the insect glaive again, although that's also very attractive now. Did a spot of jolly coop. Playing on base PS5 and tried Balanced and Resolution modes, both of which were good. I'm going to try Resolution (uncapped, then capping it at 30) for a few hunts then try Performance for comparison. Anyway, I didn't experience anything that drove me out to the streets in a rage demanding a Capcom boycott, as I see in some unhinged parts of the internet.

I played the beta in Resolution mode at 30FPS. As it's a steady frame pace, it was fine and I soon forgot that I was playing at 30.

Hope your hunts bring you big lumps of meat that you can eat and wear.

Been really enjoying the combat and new monsters, especially the

                      dancing spider and farting baboon.

Settled into the long sword (amazing fun) and bow (also amazing). But the story is appalling, and I'm granting myself a minor rant. Given the premise of MH is "cheery expeditionary force carves up local ecosystems for fun", this is a franchise that would be wisest to have no story by default. I wouldn't even comment on this one if it were not so insistently in your face. There's no escaping the slow walks and tedious narrativizing with NPCs who are by turns mawkish, unfunny and irritating, while at the same time utterly lacking in memorable character. Also, the errant tribalisms make Horizon Zero Dawn look sophisticated. They're also stupid: upon seeing an amazing wind-carved mountain formation for the very first time, one NPC comments, "Wow, it's so beautiful, somehow I never seem to get tired of looking at it." Sadly these imbeciles are inescapable. You can't even have an honest fight without your 'handler' looking on from the sidelines like a school monitor. The purpose of the handler is basically to provide/update quests, but the quest board in MH World was more attractive and had more charisma. As for the

                      Wudwuds.

Surely these monstrosities are the real apex predators that need exterminating? I understand all this chaff mostly goes away but only after the credits roll.

I don't have a magoo about the story either. I have skipped every cutscene and text from the very beginning I do this on all MH games. Possibly most games. I just want to do the stuffs.

To bring you up to speed: some kind of thing happened to a boy that was caused by a monster, and the boy is sad. You can see he is sad every time you are forced to look into his sad, sad eyes. Then monsters like loose-faced lions made some people with pretend horns on their heads sad too. But with the help of our heroes they will all be happy again and the monsters will be deaded and it'll be the monsters' turn to be sad and let them see how they like it!

Even if you straight line it, you can't skip the slow walk and talk, i skipped most of Nata cutscenes, and then everyone but the lovely Gemma about 4 hours in, hot garbage. You'll get an actual MH game in 12 hours time and even then hours and hours of side missions and Hunter Rank levelling to unlock the rest of the game.

Anyone know if there is a way to make the open world (not side missions) low rank again, you could do it in world from the map but i can't find it here. I've learned the hard way alot of the 2nd upgrades for charms require low rank small monsters.
