This game truly is stunning. I sat up playing it til 5am this morning with my mate and we started about 10pm!

I'd already done Acts 1 and 2 on Hardcore with another mate, so I started again as Dom this time and played through Acts 1, 2 and 3 this time. Bloody marvellous, some bits were quite tricky and took us a while to do, mainly parts where you have to split up as every time I'd manage to survive, my mate would die and vice versa, so that got a little annoying, but when you look past that, its been a stunning experience so far. Never before have I actually wanted to go through and start a game over again when I've not even finished but its so good, I enjoyed playing it again and taking different paths, trying different things etc.

Cant wait to get stuck in again.

Thoroughly enjoying so far ... gameplay is pure beef on the bone

Playing on hardcore and no matter how many attempts it takes to clear an area it always fun, never a chore. And it's so satisfying when you finally nail it.

Looking forward to having a go at co-op, but for now I really can't fault this game. It's just so much fun to play.

      Brilliant.

        Amen. My thoughts exactly.

Yep, agreed - I've never played a game where I don't mind reloading after death so much. Not sure why - just a very satisfying mechanic.

I was quite enjoying single-player... until Soi joined me for co-op, at which point it turned into a phenomenal game. So much slaughter, so tense - fending off Wretches on all sides - and never once stopped being fun.

The mechanics are great - active reload is fun, cover is fun, and the pace is very unusual - frenetic, but you tend to do better by hiding and firing less; the enemies look like they soak up tons of bullets, but really it's just you missing a lot.

And, even on SD, it's gorgeous to look at; this really is what I expected next-gen to be.

Multiplayer: lots of fun, again, lovely pace to it, but no-one could hear me talking this morning which was sad.

Cheers for dropping in, Soi - must do that again!

the game is getting better while making progress and getting used to the sub-optimal controls.

the sound is hit and miss. the score is ok and the sounds are clear and sharp. but some FX are just missing (e.g. water, ammo shells) and the surround mix is faulty when it comes to dialogs, which are all output through the center, regardless of the speakers position.

...and that for me, proves it's a good game. Like GRAW, I can die hundreds of times and not give up, try and try again. Just now on Act II co-op (hardcore) with a mate, we were at the bit with the
at the beginning and must have died fifteen times, but we kept going.

The mark of a superb game if ever there was one.

Yup. You can tell by the slight video artifacting that it's three.

Yes I also agree with that. I think it's the best single player action adventure since Resi4, which as mentioned many times this features a very similar vibe. To me the game feels very much like a mix of Halo and Resi4, but not quite as good as either.

Pretty much spot-on. The 30 seconds of fun thing one of the Bungie designers went on about some time ago is more applicable to Gears than Halo, though there is enough variation in the design to mix up the gunplay thankfully. It's in establishing a consistent identity where the game struggles, but I agree that it's certainly very entertaining and in my opinion, contender for best action game of the year.

this game is just superb... playing through co-op with a couple of mates who aren't really avid gamers and we're all just saying 'wow' at various points. this is a fine game.

Just finished it on hardcore. Act 3 was by far the best the best in my opinion. 4 was a let down as it really was just a retread of act 1 with autumn colours. And act 5, well I enjoyed it while it lasted (all 5 minutes of it). Clearly Epic ran out of time and the game really trails off once past the half way point, which is a shame.

Still great though and I thoroughly enjoyed it. No doubt over the sequel either, they may as well have had a Gears 2 pre-order button to click on...!

Well I tried multiplayer. Had a few games which were enjoyable (despite not having my headset plugged in) and then couldn't connect to any for some reason.

Act 3 was cool, but I found it kinda lumbersome at the end.
