Unfortunately from my perspective, I find that reading Silvergun's enthusiastic impressions towards the game much enjoyable than playing it. I have put three hours in the game since Friday and despite completing the Bronze, Silver and Gold on the 'Excite' mode, I have yet to get any excitement from the game, which I am expecting after the brilliance that is Excite Bike 64.
Urgh, I can't believe I do not like it after waiting for the game since E3 last year.

Stick with it. At first I was very meh.
Go for the S ranks because without the stars this game is nothing. A couple of hours in you click with the handling and the objective, as many points per race as possible and you realise its just fun.
I really like this game now and can see myself putting a lot of hours into it single player.

From the look of things it really is quite short unless you're an S rank player, but it's such good fun!
Will see how addicted to crackdown I am before I decide on this one. Thanks though.

I think I'm starting to get the nak now as I just played through 4 races and got S's on them all. Great fun it was too! I was giggling to myself like a loony as I was using the controller. Certainly gives you a good feeling of interacting with the gameI think persistance definitely pays off on this one...

I had the same "gah I just can't stay on the track" thing as most people at first. I worked my way up to platinum cup being unlocked last night and then went back to bronze to see what I could do. It's like playing a different game, everything clicks, you destroy everything and the score freewheels up.
It's very much worth playing until it does click, and you no longer even realise you're tilting the pad up and down in the same way that would have you taking the piss out of your mates playing Super Mario Kart.
Love it!

I have this and am loving it! I'd got one of those Wii-mote steering wheel thingummy-bobs a little while ago, and that makes the game more enjoyable and easier to control IMO. I didn't have the wheel when I first got TH Downhill and might even give it another go just to see if the wheel makes it easier to control as well...

If you're playing this properly (for S ranks) then this game certainly isn't short. There's so much to do if you have the inclination. 3 main race modes, 21 tracks, 2 challenge modes, trophies, stunt records, unlockable paint jobs and trucks. I'm nowhere near completing this and I've sunk plenty of hours into it.
Let me make one think abundantly clear. You have to be playing this on Super Excite mode. The regular Excite mode is just a warm up for the main event which is Super Excite. The difficulty ramps up significantly in Super Excite even finishing first on some corses is tricky let alone meeting the star quota for an S rank. The difficulty is pitched so that pretty much anyone can S rank Excite in an afternoon (even if you just drift all over the shop like a loon).
