Yeah I was wondering this myself. Some reviews seem to rate it as pretty damn tough and I would prefer to play through on easy first and work my way up.
Is there an easy mode at all? Or is normal the best way to go?

I jumped into it on Normal, but there's an Easy option if you want it.

Some missions were quite challenging, but it's the Monster-sized Akrids or battles against other Mechs that push you most. But that's were the fun lies, trying to nail down attack patterns and rinsing 'em. To be fair, I completed it within 3-4 days, so it isn't ball-bustingly hard, but I bet Extreme really pushes the boat out...

I'm up to Mission 9 and I haven't found it particularly tough (on Normal*). I needed a few attempts to beat some of the Bosses, but it's just a case of making sure you have plenty of thermal energy in reserve (I like to have at least 5000) and learning their attack patterns and behaviour and then doing better next time.

The Human enemies' AI is pretty dumb tbh so it's really the bigger Akrids and Mechs that can inflict massive damage and cause real problems. Especially if you're on foot. It's also quite hard to see what's going on when there's huge (and seriously impressive) explosions going off, but overall the difficulty seems quite nicely judged.

Really enjoying this game. Was temped to put it in my top 3 for GOTY, but I'll let the dust settle before deciding how good it really is.

*Normal in Japanese games has a habit of becoming "Easy" in Western editions though, so maybe that's the case here.

Same here, but I didn't want to omit God Hand from my top 3. >_<

Finished it earlier. Great game but the characters and story are ****ing awful. I was thinking to myself "STFU and get on with it!" during most of the cutscenes.

I didn't get the Moth Hunter achievement though. I assumed it would unlock after killing one of the bosses...

Been playin' this through Hard and a little bit of Extreme today, just trying to nail each mission down and collecting all the lettered coins. The positions of each change when on a different difficulty setting, adding a little extra challenge.
Also been unlocking a few achievements. The "Worm Hunter" is ****ing great fun. I was so **** scared first time 'round I just legged it across the snow plain after being trounced a few times. It's so satisfying taking the ****er out.
              Be warned -

He respawns, and the achievement won't be unlocked until you have totally completed the mission. I took out five in a row 'til I realized.

Went for that myself today, and found it works just like I mentioned with the Worm Hunter achievement (meaning you have to fully complete the mission before the achievement pops up). Did you

see him shatter once frozen? He flew straight into the mountain side.

              It was awesome.

Extreme mode looks very difficult. You really have to leg it through the level because the thermal energy depletes so quickly. I managed to reach the mission 1 boss

only to discover he had FOUR buddies with him in that small cave. Plus there's no VS suits available! I got close to beating it once then gave up after about an hour of more attempts.

                Have you found all the
coins on normal? I can't find the G!

Oi, why is my promo copy "dodgy"? Have I broke the law? I'm not bothered missing out on instructions and bonuses personally.

They are 'not for resale' :P But the game itself is probably identical to retail.

Krikey! This is a bit good isn't it?

Only played the first two missions but I'm really liking this so far. It's pure bug blasting and blowing stuff up. And then you shoot and blow them up some more.

Lots of fun moments and it's already early days. I couldn't help but laugh when bombing the spinning mini-acrid as they start to roll so they crash into a heap.

The second boss fight was just mental with explosions and smoke everywhere. Total and utter carnage and the bass coming off the chain guns was enough to make the room shake.

Speaking of which when a rocket flew past my head I actually winced - I think the silence in some parts of this game really accentuates the sound effects and carnage.

If it keeps going with the epic battles for the rest of the game then it's going to be more Capcom gold.

Fantastic impressions mate... the comments on the sound are good to hear as in games like this that is something that is often overlooked. Gears was right on the money with the use of sound and if this delivers that side of things aswell it could turn out an absolute cracker.

Caught a TV spot for it tonight and while it was all CG it certainly gets across the sense of scale that is going to be happening with the battles. Cant wait to pick this up on Friday and play it with the volume at a stupid level
