Yeah, you are basically controlling video here. It works really well. Only real (small) complaint is that the video is not of a high quality we may have seen on a blu-ray disc.

Japanese firm to sell Taiwan bullet train video game

Hmmm...now I have a choice, Railfan for ?25 new on eBay or wait a month to get the sequel for about ?40 with extra stuff.

I don't think it will be a sequel in the traditional sense. Looks to be a bullet train variation (like done in the past Densha games), but there may be some refinements to the mechanics.

Has anybody played the PSP versions of Densha? I've just noticed that there are quite a few...

yeah, the Mobile Train Simulator plus Densha de Go! series on PSP are just as great.

PSP densha games, iirc, are just one track variations of the PS2 final game. Densha final is well worth getting i would say.

I've had a few goes on this now and I'm starting to struggle on the mission thingies! I think it's mainly as I have no idea what the hell I'm supposed to be doing, how fast I should be doing it and on which part of the track it should be done on???

Is there a translation of what the missions are somewhere? I've not been able to find any online.

How do I get into the free ride part of the game as I can only find the tests?

I found Railfan quite boring tbh. Certainly not as good as the Densha games. It's quite limited in terms of what you can actually do too.
                  Kept you waiting, huh?

got my railfan today for the princely sum of ?20.50

looks lovely and had a wee go on it today and its smashing

Joe is correct the Densha games seem more arcadey

maybe its fifa vs iss (densha vs railfan)

Well I've played/watched it for a while now...and it's doing nothing for me at all so I'm trading it on here.

It may have just been the fact that it was annoying trying to work out what the hell was going on.

because i've played all the densha games i found it quite easy to work out the controls tbh, photo realistic is the way ahead

just tried the Chicago line and since i'm used to kilometres it kinda threw me 10 left and i shot by the station, since its in parts of miles

very amateur driving i may add

just got golds on all of the chicago's missions and completed the lets go by train section

its not really that hard - the only problem i had was the brake, there is only 4 steps until the emergency break whereas, the japanese trains have about 7, so i accidentally used the emergency brake a few times

just means 10 points off your total every time it happens

Is there any benefit in waiting for the Asian version? Or is it near identical to the Japanese one?
