Not sure if I can face going through it again on the dark side, but I'm sure I'll try, and maybe skip some of the side quests I did last time.

Game of the year so far for me too!
That's what I thought on my second go through, but I found that I still did most of the quests. But instead of working to make the universe a better place, I made sure to screw as many people as I could. By the time I reached the Star Forge planet, I was one evil sumbitch.

Oh, but if you do plan on playing again and want to go dark, completely skip every lightside power, including Cure and Stun and all that for your lead character. The Dark Side has an equivalent for every one of them. Instead of Cure, get Drain. Instead of Stun, get Horror. Believe me, it'll be a blast.

      Add-on post--

Well, I just finished it for the second time. ****ing fantastic. It's amazing how, just by choosing to play on the other side of the force, how much different the game was. Almost like a whole new game. Very impressive.

Well, I'm but a few hours into the beast & am enjoying it immensely - however, I was wondering if a kind soul or two could give me a (spoiler free) few tips -

        1) Basic combat - is it better to stand your ground & plug away or keep changing position? I'm probably somewhere between the two at the mo & I'm not sure which tactic is working better, for example, does moving around too much harm your accuracy etc?

        2) Buying stuff - I've come across a couple of shops with lots for sale so far - is it worth buying everything? Or are the wealth of goods there to fox you a bit?

Apologies for the basic nature of these questions, but I've never played a dice-roll game like this before - although I'm having great fun

Well, that really depends on the fight. I found early on that for most of your average fights, just standing in one place (if you're shooting) or wailing against one at a time (if you're using a vibrosword or the like, which I tended to prefer) was the best option. But, if you start to take too much damage, then by all means run off and take a medpack. Oh, and running around doesn't affect your accuracy at all that I've noticied.

The only stuff I bought on a constant basis were medpacks (early on), advanced medpacks (later), lifesupport packs (much later), all adrenal stims, and computer spikes. Occasionally I'd get something like a trigger or an energy cell or a breathmask if I needed it, but only when I needed it.

Ok, question about levelling up my character - I'm currently in the Taris sewers.

I believe that you can get to level 20 - is the best tactic just to get there as fast as you can? The reason I ask is this - when, on the stats screen, you press Y to level up, a prompt appears asking you if you're sure you want to - makes me think there's some strategy involved.

              Am I being paranoid?

Okay, here is what I did. The first time I played, I think I got to level 8 before I got to Dantooine and became a Jedi, so when I did I only had 12 levels left to get as a Jedi, which sucks. So, the second time I played it, I stopped at level 5 and just let the XP's build up until I became a Jedi, and then I got to level up three times, all with Jedi powers. The XP's don't stop building, so it's not like you're losing anything, and if you have powerful partners then they can't help take the brunt of the damage since you don't have as many HP's as you would have had you leveled up at every opportunity. The next time I play it, I think I'll try stopping at third level and see if I can make to Dantooine. Might not, but it's worth a try. Can't have to many Force Powers I say.

Ah ha! I thought something was up - cheers for the confirmation JRM; I'm level 5 at the mo, so I think I'll stick with that for the mo - time to dish out some more hot laser death I think.

I've been sifting or is that sith'ing thru this thread and am now salivating.
I've just ordered KOTOR and am expecting it tommorow. And I'm not even really into Star Wars....

Must be that old Jedi mind trick, JRM!

My way of dealing with the rancor (only got the pal verison last week)
Used mission in stealth mode to get really close to him, planted mines between the rancor and where my party was (the entrance door) started shooting at him, rancor runs towards me setting off the minefield, dead before he got to me, that 750 exp ta.
