Wow
Thats about the only word that can sum up this superb game that so many PC owners have been waiting for so long to play. 6 years!!!!!
Well its worth the wait, the game starts of with some pretty decent CGI introducing you to the barren wasteland of Chernobyl and our hero who is lucky to survive (arent they always
)
You have to navigate your way around an abandoned settlement which has other nuclear scavengers and pick up quests in an attempt to learn more about why you are here and what has happened to you etc.
The graphics are absolutely mind blowing, im running it at full spec with everything turned on and it looks on par with oblivion imo in fact I find it more real looking. The textures just seem believable, from walls to the trees outside it all looks lovely and helps to immerse you more.
The gameplay is a very good mix of Half Life 2 with a bit of Fallout added for good measure. its a combat RPG I suppose but dont let that put you off its not full of stats and things like "shotgun of light + 10"
So far Im about 2 hours into it and the freedom of the game seems to be vaste, there are "jobs" that you can take which are mini missions to kill mutants/enemies etc and you get rewards which you can then sell on to upgrade weapons n stuff.
The AI is top notch, I was quite surprised when the following happened.
I was wandering about the hills and i saw 3 military soldiers on patrol, so i though "ah lets test this grenade i picked up" so I blew up two of them and proceeded to put some holes in the last one with my trusty pistol. With them all dead i pillaged the corpses for goods and went away.
5 Minutes later I wandered back past the area and noticed a lone dude checking out the corpses, he then proceeded to run back to a settlement with armed guards and I thought nothing of it and returned to base.
10 Minutes later in the base I heard a huge burst of gunfire and ran out the hatch to discover that about 15 military types had raided the village in response to me taking out their men, what then proceeded can only be described as the closest thing to a cinematic shoot out ive ever seen in real time! Bullets flying everywhere, random swearing in russian etc and all the enemy and the npcs where fighting tooth and nail with each other.
Things like that just sell games to me tbh
So to summarise, this is Half Life 2 with the RPG element of Fallout, if that aint got you moist then your not alive!!!
