And also some people dont realise that you can empty entire clips at people from a distance using say an SMG or Spiker and it wont kill them, yet someone can down you with three or four bursts with the Battle Rifle from anywhere on the map. Its all about using the right weapons for each situation, something which took me a long time to get used to in the Halo universe.

It's getting much worse - a few people have commented now. As the not-so-interested people start pulling away from the game (the population has diminished an amazing amount) you're left with freaks who play nothing else (primarily American) resulting in unacceptable lag.
Starting to wonder if this Beta won't actually end up hurting sales in the long run.
Can't see it hurting sales as this was essentially here for the hardcore and they certainly haven't messed the game up.
Listen to last weeks 1up yours podcast.
It's this thread in audio form.Last edited by Mr Pump; 28-05-2007, 10:48.

Its not nice and it happens to everyone, The Carbine is pretty lethal i prefer it over the BR becasue its more accurate over long distance

really good games last night fellas, the highlights being that twat we had to endure BattleGaurd - It's french dude!!
Boris, (i think it was) hijaking a banshee mid air off a man cannon
If it was you Boris then get it uploaded to your file share so we can all view your greatness
Also that real pasting we gave that other lot on Valhalla - 50 -13, hilarious watching it all unfold from the safety of the banshee

Maybe if the game could record the amount of times a player had quit from a matchmaking game, and whoever has the least amount of quits will be selected as host?
I found the combat in Halo 3 much more balanced than most games. (Definately more than Gears of War.) Each weapon has it's own unique advantage, including the needler.
I'm probably still more of a fan of rainbow six: Vegas multiplayer though.

Good connection filter will be utilised for the remainder of the beta.

You need to keep things balanced to give yourself the best chance. Couple a sniper rifle with a shotgun (still leaves you vulnerable at medium range unless you're a good unscoped shot), or duel wield SMGs so that you can whip out the sniper when it's safe. Your assault rifle won't kill anything at medium/long range but a battle rifle can. The charge time on the laser makes it useless up close so keep a shotgun or something that fires fast with that.
I still think this is one of the best balanced FPS I've ever played. Everything has its use and no weapon is completely useless, but they all have their quirks and learning how to use them and balance them with another weapon is very important. It's something you don't get in the games where you can carry a dozen weapons and just stick with the most powerful.

I also find grenades and melee has come into itself on this version now, they are more important than ever before.
Lopping a well timed grenade to someone with the laser and a couple of BR shots to the face can do them before they have charged up fully.
Also slowing down the rate of fire on the sniper is a good choice, means you have less exploit of double shots and more people trying to become more accurate with the weapon. Another good example is the plasma pistol less homing on it now is far better no more newb combos AHOY, that combo would do my head in at times especially if it’s ALL the person does.
It's getting more finely balanced by the day, needlers might be a bit too massive though, they have toned down the homing on them too but you get direct in someone face even with one nevermind a pair, they gonna die!

I think starting with two grenades is a bit much, one would be enough to stop the "ooh, I'm about to die I might as well lob my 2 grenades randomly" moments.
Also beat downs are just to powerful. When I'm doing particularly badly, I just charge at people hoping to smack them down, and with the element of surprise, you can usually hack them to death before they shoot you to death.
I don't mind the battle rifle, but it's freaking everywhere. I hope the weapons are a bit better spread in the final game.
Which reminds me, why on earth are we in the army, with a base on the map, yet still have to go find a gun resting in a cave. Why can't you go to a nicely stocked weapons cabinet, or better yet, choose the gun you start with. Shouldn't be a problem if all guns have their pros and cons
