If it's the part I'm thinking of there should be bug-shaped switches you need to shoot to align in a certain pattern.

ah yes, I see the switch - so I cant reach it by pushing the block down?

None of this is going to be accurate because I'm going off one of the worst memories in the history of mankind, but

one of the swirches in between the two gigantic statues brings a gate down, where you then have to drop down into the small pool with the water lowered beforehand, swim to the side and use the block to clamber up and get inside the gate before it shuts. At the top of the ladder is another switch, and either next to that (or the block underneath) is a curved wall you can grab on to in order to hit another switch.

Just go from there, you'll be able to figure out the rest.

All of that is so out of order.

I'm really tempted to buy this as the first Tomb Raider made me buy a PS1.

How does it compare to the original? Have they added loads of extra gun play to the game? That spoiled the later games for me, I preferred the exploration of the first game to any of the others.

It's the best Tomb Raider since Tomb Raider one, and is probably the best game in the series. That enough of a recommendation for you.

I'd go for the PC version though if your setup is funneled into one television.

Nah gunplay is downplayed for sure, it's the exact same kind of play and pace as the original!

I didn't like later TR's either, for the same reason. Love this though, best since the original.

                  Thanks,

I'd probably go for the PS2 version though as I don't really use my PC for games.

Have to disagree. TR3 was the best indivdual game - it distilled and added to the best ideas from TR1 and TR2. But it was a much tougher game with a horribly steep difficulty curve. This put the more casual gamers off it big time right from the start. I believe this was the prime cause of all the knee jerk anti-TR copy (much of it retrospective) that dogged any discussion about the series afterwards.

Still TR: A is a fine game, well worth playing whether you're fan of the old games or hated them.

I really disliked TR3. I can't remember much of it (what's new), but I do recall it was around that point that the series started going downhill (and no, I wasn't a casual gamer).

Why I felt the games after the first lost it was because the first had some of the best level design of any game series. The following games tried to improve on that by opening the levels up, introducing more human enemies and multiplying the gunplay.

I'm not saying that was bad...but it didn't seem to have any relevance to the first game really.

I remember enjoying quite a few parts of TR3 but two things stick in my head:

Firstly, the end sections were painfully easy. TR1 was tough at the end. TR2 was nightmarish. But TR3 was an absolute breeze.

Secondly (and this is the big one), the game very clearly wasn't finished. There were clear gaps in it. Levels where you could just tell there was meant to be a level in between that and the previous one. It just felt incomplete.

That said, I remember some underground place with some monsters that was pretty cool. And yet another dinosaur area but one that was much more developed. I think, in general, I probably liked it. And I'm pretty sure I preferred the settings to TR2.
