30 with an additional 6 that are unlockable.

I wouldn't call it lengthy but there are enough for it to be enjoyable for weeks/months depending on how hard you grind it.

I probably won't grind it hard, I don't grind any games hard anymore. The thing I don't understand is how can you have cleared 60 tracks if there are only 30?
      Kept you waiting, huh?

Different difficulties..? I'd imagine the play mechanics change rather a lot.

I figured sommat like that. I may go and buy this for a heavily marked up price from Game Focus. I must have it today.

Yes, you can get four crowns/passes with each track. One for Flower(easy), bamboo (medium), trees (hard) and Oni (insane).

Thanks for the impressions guys. Should hopefully have my copy of this by the weekend. That English Menu Translation will certainly come in handy too. ^_^

Hey, little warning. According to latest Famitsu, some copies of Taiko no Tatsujin DS are defective, and brick themselves if you try to change clothes.

Mine *seems* to be fine. Got a Taiko in a Tutu.

Reading an engrish translation of - http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/...ko.htm?ref=rss - it seems the problem is when all three player profiles are being used and you change clothes on the third profile.

So aslong as you only use two of the profiles you should be safe, Hopefully.

Tutu and gold Crown for the win!

I have over 90 crowns now (62 gold and 31 silver) but I didn't get a medal at 90 like I was expecting. Easy songs not counting?

Third song unlocked but I'm not sure how. Had a mail when I booted it up today.

                      Done.

Phew, only two profiles in use on mine anyway, so will be sure not to brick the game using the third one, just in case like.

It has to be said, this works incredibly well on the DS. Much, much better than it does on the PSP, like.

Really?.. that might be the reason it disappeared from my local Yamada Denki - picked up a copy there on Saturday afternoon and when I popped back in on Sunday it was nowhere to be seen. Was surprised as it didn't seem possible for them to sell out as many copies as they had stacked up/on the shelves no matter how popular Taiko is as it's not really a major store/location!

Taiko no Tatsujin DS sold 90 000 copies during its first week, and it was heavily supply constrained. Probably because of this bug.

The kick from medium to hard is pretty brutal. Had to switch from the sticks to the buttons at that point and took a while to adjust.

Think I've just about got hard sorted, can't imagine how insanely difficult Oni is going to be.

Is there some special technique for hitting the ones that are really close together, seems to be pretty hit and miss for me, sometimes I get them all, sometimes not.

Yeah, I went in and asked them when I went shopping last night. Just said there was a problem with the software and they weren't sure when they'll be getting more in.

Hmm... Actually, I would say that the move from Hard to Oni is even more cruel––to the point where I wish that there were a tutorial mode for some of the patterns you see only in the latter mode.

I can say, however, that you can do everything with the sticks, (I've managed to clear everything in Easy, Normal, and Hard––except for the diabolical "Denjiku 2000," which, ironically, is one of my favourite tunes in the game––with them) but the problem is to know when to use your hands. Maybe it's just me, but the biggest stumbling block for me regarding Taiko no tatsujin (and I suppose real taiko as well) is that you have to get away from the idea of having a certain hand specialised for a certain beat (for example, right hand for the "Don" (red) sounds and left hand for the "Ka" (blue) sounds). It is possible, but it's quite difficult. And yet I don't know how I managed to clear the "William Tell Overture" in Oni mode....
