Sega Rally demo (360 & PS3)

I do have problems with the triggers on games like you mentioned, where they are only being used for quick presses (such as the gear change in F1), but for a racing game, where they are used for long periods of time, I have no problems with them at all.
-
It's a problem I have with Stardust - the triggers are way too sensitive and just resting my finger naturally on top of the button can trigger a smart-bomb or two.
And the lack of rumble sticks out real bad coming off the 360 version.

I thought that too, but after a while I was able to adjust to the leeway on the triggers and started to master feathering the throttle.

Enjoyed this as well, however I feel that there was little room for accelerating on the PS3-pad: Pressing R2 completely in is full go, but if I ease slightly it almost comes to a halt instead of a little accelerating. (Sorry if this is hard to understand, not so good with words)
Nevertheless, this is just the demo, the complete version should be "perfect"

I knew the head guy went off to form Q Entertainment when they merged all the teams, but didn't they do the Initial D Stage 4 Arcade game last year? Maybe they've split permanantly since then?
I agree totally that AM#2 should definitely handle the next Outrun or Daytona, or at least Nagoshi's team, as he was heavily involved in Daytona.
Anyways, just played the demo for a hour or so and am really digging it.
When I first started with the out of car view with the Subaru I was truly shocked at the handling and had no control over the vehicle at all. Switched to the bumper-cam though and it was all good.
It doesn't have the same finesse of handling that Sega Rally (and to extent Sega Rally 2) had, but it is still enjoyable arcade style handling, and once you get used to it you'll be up with the front runners in no time. I managed to win both courses once I had the handling sussed.
The defomation not only looks cool, but has a noticeable effect on the racing lines, especially on the last lap, where moving offline on a long corner leaves you sliding around hopelessly, looking for some kind of grip to get you back to the racing line.
Taken on its own merits, this is a quality arcade racer, which I can see being a lot of fun, both in single player and in the online aspect. Compared to Sega Rally 1 and (in the arcade) 2, it doesn't really measure up, but forget the name and you'll have a wail of a time with it.

and nah - I did mean AM#2 as El Leon was talking about Outrun & Daytona 3 which were both by them - AM5 don't exist anymore afaikLast edited by Yoshimax; 21-09-2007, 11:41.

I can't remember who asked earlier but I've found some comparison shots for all three versions:
XBox 360
PS3
PSP
I think all three hold up well next to each other and the only problem with the graphics would be if something really stood out against the other two, which doesn't seem to be.
It seems that they run at the same speed also and the decider could well be the PS3 controller for people.
My favourite out of the 3 was actually the PSP version so if I buy one new it may well be that version! These arcade games often feel more suited on a handheld to me.

edit: to expand (on the original), the sudden switch between grip and drift is disconcerting and had to be constantly predicted.
I'm not sure I agree with the point about the "charm and details". The original was extremely sparse, with huge swathes of track edges completely empty and monotextured if I remember rightly. There seems a lot more going on in this new version, although if you are saying that they could have used the power of the modern consoles to pack even more stuff in there, then I'll conceed there's room for more detail.
In Comparison the handling in this game is just too sensitive and not half as fun.
It also seems as impossibley hard as the DC version of Sega Rally 2Last edited by rmoxon; 21-09-2007, 11:33.

I really liked the 360 demo, ended up playing it for 2 hours straight between my friend and me seeing who could get the best time. Definite purchase for me.

I could also compare the PS3 to the 360 version during the demos, I realized that the PS3 version looks not only better, it also runs a bit smoother than the 360 version (especially when you wait at the beginning of the race when the camera moves around your car). On the other hand the controls with the standard setup in the PS3 version suck, just because the L and R triggers suck (you can really feel your finger is slipping off the button during the race).Last edited by goemon74; 21-09-2007, 10:49.

I quite liked it. Doesn't look that great; not compared to Motorstorm anyway but the handling was good and that track deformation stuff actually works. By the final lap the car was bumping around as I drove over the trenches caused by the previous laps.

Jury is still out on this one so I guess I'll rent/borrow before making my purchase or probably wait and get it pre-owned.
