Eh, because the Covenant destroyed the planet where the original pistol developers lived cause it kept pwning them and the UNSC had to get a contract with their second choice developer for Halo 2

It didn't lose it. It's just locked out until you buy an official add-on. Like the video-out in the new iPods.

Or chief lost his lock on ability after crashing down on earth, damaging his suit, losing the zoom in on the pistol and lock on for the rocket.

I agree the pistol was too powerful in the original Halo (and the Battle Rifle was obviously designed to indirectly replace it) but I too miss it - it would be great as downloadable content!

Oh I see, so they've deliberately stopped making the lock on editions, so that they can charge extra for the lock on edition at a later date and call it a special edition? Kinda like the PS3 and it's backwards compatibility?

That's exactly it. All the press releases said that lock-on was so last gen. I was wondering why the rocket launcher felt oddly light.

Are you guys talking about multiplayer when you say that the pistol was overpowered on CE? I played CE last night and the pistol seemed to be pretty ineffective against Elites, but maybe I didn't try it enough.

Besides, it wasn't really the power of the gun, it was just the scope on it that I loved and the interplay with hunters.

Had a go at some hunters with a hammer earlier, though, which was almost as good!
