Halo 3, i didn't bother with Normal, went straight in on Heroic, which is where i am now. While playing last night the level i am on, which i think is a
crashed spaceship
, brought back horrible memories of the Russian park level on Goldeneye (forget the name of it). Kept getting lost and stuck on the scenery. At one point i had to grenade my own feet to die, as i couldn't get out of this little gap i had got in to
(right where the Flamethrower is, that big mound of gloop)
.
The whole experience has left me deeply disturbed.

Just finished the game on legendary (did it first time - no heroic for me).
I must admit to being a little bit underwhelmed. I don't mean to say that I had high expectations - I'm not someone who listens to hype. When everyone was talking about it as "heavily advertised" and "the biggest entertainment launch ever" I was slightly surprised (I really don't take the blind bit of notice.)
I just felt it wasn't really better than CE on campaign. I didn't feel the magic I remember from the stand out levels of the original. Undoubtedly it was still fun and the sort of 'sand box' that was available in combat has yet to be matched (in the games I've played).
I did feel it was a little bit easier than I would have liked - I never felt substantially outsmarted by the enemies. I also felt the game never really delivered on it's promises of real large-scale battlefields that were talked about, even with
the scarabs.
I thought it was much the same as previous Halo's.
Also - did anyone else feel like the driving sections were really dragged out, stretched across the levels?
For what it's worth, I wouldn't give the solo campaign a 10. Might change with replay's I suppose, but I'd probably give it a low 9.Last edited by egparadigm; 17-10-2007, 18:20.

I thought the bit with the hornets was sublime - the banshee don't fly as easily as they used to (they seem much more geared to the MP portion of the game now) so I figured the hornets were used as a replacement (they're almost helicopters compared to the banshees).
It's way better co-op than SP but any Halo player worth their salt knows that already

Played through Mission 5 on Legendary single player last night and either I am very good at this game or it is an awful lot easier than previous Haloz. Sure there was the odd dificulty spike where I had to engage a Wraith with my bare hands but other than that the mission was just great fun and never felt frustrating or unfair. Knowing what weapon to use in each situation and grabbing every chain gun I see does help but there is definitly not the same difficulty spike that I felt in the earlier levels or ALL of Halo 2 and TBh, I dont think that is a bad thing.
I plan on hitting Mission 5 co-op tonight and if last nights adventure is anything to go by, it is going to be a walk in the park

However, the other night I was playing through "The Ark". I reached the bit where you find the map and then have to backtrack for a bit ... the first room has six or seven Grunts, and two Brutes in a corridor on the left, and about five seconds after you enter the room, two more Brutes and a Brute leader (with a plasma cannon and a regenerator) enter through a rear door.
Well, I must've died about a dozen times trying to clear that room, but then realised that there was a clear run to the rear door if I just ignored the Grunts etc.
So in the spirit of kamikaze attacks, I barged through the room dodging the plasma pistol shots, chucked a grenade through the rear door just as it opened, charged through into the sloping-downhill corridor, and leapt into the air. The grenade exploded, taking the armor off the first two Brutes. While still in mid-air, I put three brute-gun shots point blank onto the heads of each Brute, killing two, and I melee'd the leader to death once I landed.
I must've watched the replay about 20 times. Shame you can't save clips in campaign replays ...
I swear, the expression on that leader's face while I beat him to death was the Brute equivalent of "WTF?"Last edited by peeveen; 18-10-2007, 11:10.

Its hard to make out what is going on in that pic Peeevn but it looks great
The highlight of my mission 5 run through was waltzing through the hangar type area with a gattling before you get to the AA gun and just mowing thoughthe waves of Brutes that appear, it was great. At one point 3 of them each popped a bubble shield such was the dominance of the gattling bullet spitterThe Hunters also fell with ease... hide in a crate as they chase the human fodder, spike grenade in the back to soften them up then shotgun shell point blank before he knows what is goin on, then done the same with the other one but used some gentle manouvering instead of the crate hiding sneakiness... great stuff. Apart from the bit where a Wraith just kept spamming me it felt easier than my Heroic run through. I am using grenades a lot better this time aswell though so that is making a big difference aswell.
No doubt there are going to be some sections later, especailly with the flood where I want to curl up and die, but for now it just feels like the perfect setting to be playing the game on.
The legendary co-op runs with the skulls on is where the balls get busted now I think.

I thought the SP game was considerably better than Halo 2. While it isn’t quite as good as the original Halo, it has far more replayability with the addition of online co-op, skulls and the meta game.
As for Banshee piloting –you can nab one out of the air if you are sneaky. They often pass quite low to the ground and it is possible to board them as they fly past.

I bought my 360 when Halo 3 was released. Thought it was very good. Halo. Executed to perfection.
But what have I been playing that all of you raved so much about? CRACKDOWN! Damn, I know why they put 'crack' in the title. Gaming compulsion heaven. Or possibly hell, depending how you look at it.
