I actually really enjoyed level eight -

but I am one of the few people that enjoy The Library from Halo1, which is one of the most intense levels in any fps! Coop legendary is breathtaking on that level, and although level eight from Halo3 is a bit messy and easy to get lost, it retains a similar feeling

    .

My main fault with this game now is that it's too easy on Legendary with more than two people. I've just wizzed through the first six levels without many problems at all. A couple of nasty points but we made it through eventually. I appreciate the skulls are there to making it more challenging but I think they could have made a special new difficulty level to begin with. Found about 5 skulls mind but haven't played with them on...apart from

Grunts Birthday Party for a laugh

. Along with about four of them

    terminals - wtf?

Got 15k score on one map but no achievement, I guess it doesn't happen on all of them.

    Not even tried multiplayer yet

I did this too Pete. Think each player needs to have 15,000 though. Not a joint score. So skulls need to be turned on for extra points.

I meant I got 15k, the others got around the same too

Currently playing through the campaign without any expectations a second time around has elevated it in my opinion. It's up there with the original Halo.

I still think level eight is the weakest level in the series behind the Library though. It's too easy to get lost in one specific section, far too repetitive and annoying in places.

I love the opening cut scene for the campaign http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEdyfpyfInw The music it starts with is perfect and the Johnson section is just great !

Oh yeah and GFX FTL as others have said >_<

I'm going to have to stick up for it. The lighting is fantastic, the textures are extremely detailed and diverse, there's plenty of complex geometry, there's some lovely particle effects, huge draw distances with superb sense of scale, the water is gorgeous (and probably the first fps which gives body to water), the frame-rate is smooth and consistent and level of detail issues (especially compared to BioShock) are deftly handled and barely noticeable. Speaking from a non-technical perspective, the only thing which lets the game down is the lack of real-time environmental shadows (they're still pasted on to textures it seems), a few snazzy shader effects and poor human character models in the in-game cutscenes.

Take a look at the destroyed orbital elevator in Tsavo Highway or the insane amount of detail on the factory buidlings in Voi, amongst others. There's a subtly to the art design which doesn't scream out in the same way that Gears does. This goes into other areas too. It just feels a polished experience, both in the presentation and the controls (the way everything handles) to me.

Too many games of this generation have ended up over-reaching and having trouble with things you'd hope would be consigned to the last-gen.

Stupid question but I've just come out of a match where I well and truly cleaned up but - how the hell do I save replays? Is it done automatically?

Edit: for anyone else wanting to know...

Simply play a game. Multiplayer, Campaign, or even Forge. A selection of your most recent films will appear in the Theater Lobby, accessed from the main menu,

The game made me generally say "wow" at one point, it was a combination of the view, the battle and the scale which did it. It was one of the coolest things I've ever seen in a game, actually:
                        late spoiler:

When the huge ship comes in and stops right above your head to drop off some tanks. The way it caused my warthog to fly all the way back through the map was *amazing*. Total Battlestar season 3 episode 4 moment

Yeah, it automatically records your most current mission. Well, it did for me in Campaign.

That bit was cool. Really obvious, but I found the moments with the scarabs and the sheer chaos going on stood out. A lot of it though was just a combination of small things which just kept underlying how polished it is, even if it is (as Boris pointed out) presumably operating on a modified version of Halo 2's engine, which is in itself to the best of my knowledge an iteration of Halo's.

Lyris, you get a few more options with saved stuff if you link you live profile to your Halo 3: Bungie profile there.

You'll get seemingly millions of Stats and stuff on their too!

Everybody gets to see how good/bad you are at the game...which is worrying for people like me.

                              EDIT:

Can you save screen shots directly onto the 360 or do I have to upload them to my Bungie profile, download them to my PC and copy them across?

I hope you picked up on my sarcasm Concept, I think the game is gorgeous, and thank you for describing why in far greater detail than I could be bothered to

You had to save the game before moving onto the next in MP in the beta, not sure if that has changed for the full game now !
