Hmm, sorry but I'm really not convinced by the "matchmaking" on display here.

I love this online, I do...but as much as I love it, I loathe it.

I was under the impression the matchmaking was there to match similar skilled people to one another? Even in lone wolf I keep getting extremely highly skiller players against me, the last match I played he had 7 kills before anyone else had a single kill.

The trouble seems to be that it doesn't just base it upon skill, but how many matches you've played. I don't get it at all if I'm 100% honest. I'd just like a match where there it doesn't go the way of 3 people on 20 kills and another 3 people on 2 kills.

Also, regarding the netcode, whilst it seems its as near perfect as we'll get there are some things I find a little odd. In a 1 vs 1, I've found I've gotten some extremely strange results. In the last match I went into a 1 vs 1 with a full shield, empty a whole clip of the Needler then meleed him, he didn't die, in fact he hit me with a single melee and killed me instantly.

Finally, one quick question to halo vets. When you die from a frontal melee, should you be able to SEE them do the attack? Sometimes I see it, other times I melee them but it says "xxx beat you down"...only they didn't, not on my screen, in fact they did nothing of the sort on my screen! Actually, a LOT of the time I get beat down but don't see any such attack.

Minor complaints (though the matchmaking one is putting me off, Matty and I in team doubles earlier got up against 2 captains...we're nowhere near that level!) within a superb game.

If you don't set the matchmaking option to restrict to players close to your skill range I think it just chooses an 'optimal' match, i.e. someone relatively close with a good connection.

The melee weirdness is a 'feature' of the game too AFAIK. It's all down to lag basically.

But you can't change that parameter in ranked matches can you? Only in social!

You coming back on btw? Sorry, had to dash really quickly, but was enjoying the doubles when it was a fair match!

Doesnt the matchmaking just try and find people at your level, and then slowly widen the range of levels? i.e. 10, then 9-11, 8-12 etc... So if theres no one else on with a similar skill then either going to end up being pwned or 0wning people, depending.

Not really - the number isn't reflective of the players ability it's just their rank in a playlist.

That's why you have the grade badges 'innit.

I don't **** myself against Captains or suchlike - As long as you're good there's nothing to fear and if you get horsed you study the replay and understand what they did right / you did wrong.

              It's ****ing genius.

I had a couple of games in the Basic Training Matchmaker (on account of being a noob and all) and the difference in skill was immense. I had a couple of people who it said hadn't ever played and hadn't played single player and they absolutely kicked ass. I had others who were a couple of ranks up and weren't great at all. But, for some reason, it let some hotshot with pimped armour (showing he had racked up a lot of play) and a high rank into one of the games to pick us all off one by one.

Still, haven't had a game I didn't enjoy yet. I remember back in the Quake 2 days feeling like new guys didn't stand a chance. Halo 3, for whatever reason, has me feeling like I have a fair shot every time. I think it's the fact that just about every weapon is useful so it's not just a race to the rocket launcher.

The ranks really just show off how many games you've played - I played against a Major the other day, and the guy was well and trully destroyed. He'd just played a tremendous number of games, and lucked out I guess to be on the winning team quite a few times !

No, I don't think so. I just got to the gully with all the snipers, I think.

I was just worried that the game had been made easier on Legendary to accomodate 4p co-op. If you guys say it's hard, then I must just be wrong.

I'm pretty certain you can set the option for Ranked matches too. I've been choosing Good Connection as the priority though because of the amount of times I got killed due to latency on the CoD4 beta.

I've regularly experienced the same thing and that coupled with the unacceptable waiting time between matches has pretty much killed ranked matchmaking as far as I'm concerned.

I have been playing for the last week or so, and I agree sometimes I do not see the person who melee's me do the action on my screen, infact alot of the times I swear I pressed it first and still die, guess it must be lag/netcode.
ALso, if this has been posted before I aplogise but I found it rather amusing if not nescessarily true: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/arti...tuation-Halo-3

We get it. You don't think much of the plot. Move on please.
I'm not saying I don't think much of it, but that it is hard for me to follow.

I merely noted that others share my opinion.
Don't know why this irks you so.

To suggest my post was ignored would suggest no one read it, I don't reckon that was an accurate assessment.

Don't forget to delete this post again because as a moderator this reply to your comment is obviously spam (whereas your comment was not) and you have to have the last word.

On a completely unrelated note, I'd just like to say that Cortana is an even worse level than Library on Halo:CE.

Nah, I like Cortana better- disorientating it might be, but at least it is more visually interesting than The Library.
