I also found Legendary on Halo 3 much easier than the previous games. The on-foot section of the highway level and the Cortana level were really tough but, still, even playing in single player (not co-op) I managed to complete the game in a couple of days where as Halo 2 on Legendary had me playing for over a week. The game would have been much tougher on Legendary were it not for the Arbiter, bless his cotton socks, who, unlike the idiotic marines, repeatedly proves his worth.

Bungie just made some of the most useful weapons of the original game less effective. if you want to call this "balancing" then, of course, you've got a point.

eh, why should i be blinded? and why nostalgia? i still play Halo a lot because the game hasn't aged at all for me. well, i guess variety of level design just means more to you than combat gameplay and a serious challenge. but that's fine by me. let's not start a war about which Halo is best as long as every one loves Halo



i have completed it, a number of times already. and i can say it's nearly a complete different experience. i didn't get this from Halo 3 so far. am on level 4 right now, so maybe the fights get more challenging with progression.

The weapons are more ballenced becuase now no gun is over powered and each are good for different situations.

I guess I actualy worded it wrong by "blinded by nastalgia" I guess I really meant that your apparent fondness for the first game was clouding your judgment. The Combat is basicaly the soame in this game, its just been tweaked a bit, and while it might be not as hard, its actualy farer than either of the other two games in that there are not half as many places where you require luck to get through places alive on legendary.

Halo 3 IS a different experience on each of the difficulty settings, as many people have already pointed out, so shouldnt have to argue that fact really. But still its the core gameplay we are on about, and its better than the original game in all aspects of this area.

Just wait till you start playing with higher ranked players, then it moves onto the Mauler/Melee combo. You'll love it!

I use that combo sometimes but am amazed that one shot without being point blank drops me yet I have to shoot and melee most of the time to get a kill with it, same with the shotgun. It's like Halo 2 all over again. What happened to three years worth of development?!

really? then i guess we just don't agree on the ingredients which make the "core gameplay" of Halo. it's remarkable, by the way, how much you take it for granted that your opinion is generally accepted and valid.

10 deaths later on the *first* contact with the aliens and i cowered in defeat, restarted on normal, and proceeded to finish the game

Don't worry, I did exactly the same. Went straight for Heroic on my virgin attempt, found it too tough, so switched to normal. But honestly, it's surprising how less difficult playing on Legendary is once you know the game's little routines and idiosyncrasies.

Well for me Im finding this the best FPS Ive played and that says something from me with playing PC FPS since Wolfy back 15yrs ago when I bought my first PC. Ive played practically every FPS out their and the AI on this for me is the business on just heroic, even puts FEAR to shame and including what I said other week about Half Life on PC this for me even beats that as the AI is just a next gen step up for me.

When I started out on heroic I thought it was abit nuts, I died something silly like 80times over and over but I found it fun, I stuck with it and Im glad I did. Once I finished Im going back on normal to get all the skulls (didnt know owt about them until tonight) then 100% Legendary from then on.

Having rented it for a weekend and finishing it on Heroic, I have to say that I enjoyed it.* I could never agree with the "gods gift to gaming" opinion that most people seem to hold, but I can't deny I liked it this time around.

It looks as though they've actually hired a level designer this time around, and apart from a couple of completely stupid difficulty spikes (6 snipers all overlooking a pit with you having limited ranged weaponry and virtually no where to be out of line of sight of the one furthest away from you? SIGN ME UP!), I found it actually quite enjoyable to play. As usual the vehicles sections were my favorite part by far, but I thought the on foot stuff was actually okay as well.

The sci-fi-ness of the setting totally appeals to the massive nerd that I am, and the massive scale of some of the sections really impressed me. Oh and I now think that the Flood are finally well-realized and not some textbook how-not-to-do-it example of a Character Design course.

It feels strange to be on the side of the masses saying something complimentary about a Halo game after hating the first two, and because the series as a whole is the most over-rated in gaming history by a distance approaching an astronomical unit**, it's hard to not notice yourself trying to tone it down to try and counterbalance some of the rose-tinted fanboy garbage.

Also, I realize they think they're onto something with that sort of an ending, but seriously, it didn't need to go on for that long. We get it already.

If it was tightened up control and aiming wise for the PC (please no forced Vista) then I would actually consider the purchase for sure, even though I've already finished it, just to see what could be done with modding and user created levels.

*(Because people always feel the need to give their gaming history when talking about a sequel, I'll hide it here : I despised Halo 1 although I did finish it, mainly because I was hearing how pure awesome it was so I kept slugging through it to see if it even actually got good, not realizing that it's actually a total piece of **** with an apparently entertaining MP mode. Seriously, the Library is the most retarded level in FPS history. And Halo 2 appeared to be more of the same so I didn't bother with that past the first 2-3 levels. I rented this so I could shut up a Halo-fanboy friend up who kept telling me I should buy it, but it turned out okay.)

Last night on multiplayer, my guy (Brown Fury) had a coronary. Running around, then just keels over and dies. Couldn't see why so checked the replay and, sure enough, there's nobody near me and nothing I missed. Brown Fury just died out of nowhere.

Must have been all those fries.
