I cant quite put my finger on it (it might just be because I haven't played PGR3 for ages) but this just feels a whole lot better than the previous outing.
The Kudos system seems to implemented better. That could just be my mind playing tricks but it seems a lot more natural and intuitive to use. Could just be the way it relays info to you, but it just seems more accessible.
But what is definitely better is the visuals - they're less jagged, less pop in of textures and the whole games not as dark (even when racing through tall sky scraper lined city streets). Dare I say it, how PGR3 should have looked if it wasn't booted out the door asap for launch.
Loving the weather effects too. I was so amazed by the fact that raindrops actually reflected part of the world as it passes through them and that the speed of the car drives the rain back up the windscreen, that I lost control and smashed headlong into a barrier at 130mph. Cue the screen going all static and distorted like someone had just given my TV a kick
The surround audio is more impressive too - in car is improved and sounds great. And the handling of the cars is superb (but then I had no complaints about that at all in 3) - there's a real feeling of weight and gravity to them.
Like the upload feature too - it was nice to check out ezee's swervy swervy driving skills
And I can sort of see now why GW:Waves wasn't released as a separate game on Live Arcade. It doesn't seem that much different to warrant it.
But the game designers deserve a severe kicking for one truly horrific aspect of the game that totally ruins it...
...Lady Sovereign is on the soundtrack. Seriously. What were they thinking.

Re Geometry Wars. I think they're releasing a proper sequel aren't they? I mean they even say on their own site that it's pretty much out grown PGR now so waves is just a token nod to it's heritage really.
Glad to hear there's a lot of love for this game so far though

One thing ive noticed the acheivements come thick and fast, only played for 2 hours yesterday, but unlocked 400 points already.
One of the acheivements I hate was on there, beat a member of bizarre or beat some one who has beaten one, unlocked it already
Highlight of the game so far was racing the nurburgring in snow with a car from the 50's , sun shining down and the reflection blinding you as you drive as it would in real life,
Hats of to them for getting the weather spot on, rain feels like your driving in rain, snow feels like snow settling on your windscreen as you drive, the sun blinding you, how it can be sunny when you start the race but part way through a storm hits, thunder and lightning and the road becomes slippery especialy if you hit the painted curbs
Theyve tweaked the kudos system aswell, not only do you have to get kudos, but you need kudos stars too, everytime you start getting kudos, for a slide, air or whatever else you get a dial go around in the centre of the screen everytime you get to 100 kudos you get a kudos star, some of the sections require you to get certain amounts of stars to beat the track, so you need to string those moves to gain stars
This has got to be the BEST pgr todatealmost worth the £55 to import it........ damn you customs and excise
Soundtrack is interesting to say the least..........Last edited by fragmast3r; 06-10-2007, 10:36.

As much as I like the new Kudos readout it's not without its problems. If you're using the in car or on bike viewpoint it lumps it smack bang in the centre of the screen, which can make seeing the way ahead a bit tricky and is very distracting when you're hurtling around at breakneck speeds.

There's even the now obligatory "play the game for a stupid number of hours" achievement.

I'm really enjoying this. Looks great, handles fantastically well and has a really great structure. I'm really enjoying Quebec as a location with its' curvy, uphill courses.
Tokyo still remains my favourite though, all that neon is amazing in the rain when the bodywork of your car is reflecting everything.
One thing I would say though is that I am finding it a lot more difficult than previous PGR games. 3 was a doddle compared to this, I'm really struggling to do well in many events and I'm only aiming for silver!
