Dear God I hope the developers don't agree with anyone who feels they "lost their way". Finished it myself the other week and aside from the largely horrendous dialogue and voice-acting I think it's easily my favourite of the four games I've played. I never, ever want to go back to the old cramped little battlefields, and other than that I don't see anything here besides various stats (so many missiles to kill a fighter, so many a bomber, so many a ground target etc) to differentiate it from the rest of the franchise. Tremendous game - too easy overall, but then they're rarely anything else on normal settings.

And despite the ghastly lines coming thick and fast I'd probably place the story second after #4. Zero was appalling - I say again, the live action video was hysterically bad and anyone who thinks any different needs psychiatric help - and while #5 had some great moments, I'm hard-pressed to remember what went on half the time. #6 made me groan out loud more than any piece of creative media ever ought to, but same old ending or otherwise, the feeling was more than there as far as I'm concerned.

I quite like the multiplayer, too. It may be an awful lot of flying around in circles spamming QAAMs but it's not as if that doesn't take any skill - to whoever says any different, why aren't you up the top of the leaderboards?

I got the game a few weeks ago, but only got round to playing it. I've been really enjoying it so far, but then I got to Mission 9. I've spent quite a long on it and it's been really frustrating me. I have read one or two tips for it, so hopefully I can manage it. I just don't want to give up on it since it's been really good so far.

the ridiculously difficult mission 9 makes me want to the devs! i've wasted hours already with this one just to get killed close at the end. what use is there for checkpoints if there's only one at the very beginning? also the mission shows clearly how worthless your allies are - even if numerous.

Not sure what you're doing wrong - are you playing on Expert to start with or something? Your allies are arguably too powerful, since all you have to do is run away a little, pull the enemy support with you, tell your squad to cover and half the Strigon fighters simply disappear. Not opinion, fact. They also help immeasurably when taking down the Aigaion - the only thing they outright cannot do is take out the final target, but they can whittle away a ton of the AA, the engine coverings etc. Other than that... never, never go in above the level of the Aigaion if you can help it, get used to locking on, firing and wheeling instantly to avoid the later clouds of missiles the big planes send your way, and finish the Aigaion coming in from the front - it's much, much easier.

The game gets much, much harder than mission 9 (if never that difficult, like any AC game). I admit it's significantly trickier than anything before that point, but it's really not that hard, and to say it shows your allies up as useless is simply not true - I doubt you'll believe me but I'm pretty much convinced that whatever you're doing, you're doing it wrong.

thanks. well, i didn't do anything wrong, i just didn't order my allies because i didn't know how to. i got it now and, you're right, it make things a lot easier if you use allied attack and allied cover effectively. this doesn't change the fact that they are not of much help if not continuously getting orders.

Well, it's supposed to be like that, kind of. It's CoD-style smoke and mirrors much more than it's a detailed simulation of battle. There shouldn't be any point in the game where you feel "I could have survived there if only my squadmates had dived in and lent me a hand"; if you're getting tailed continuously, set Shamrock to cover you and that should take some of the heat off (I pretty much had him on Cover rather than Attack right the way through the game). I mean, yes, I'll freely admit it's ridiculous how your allies can only wipe out enemies that fast when they're "powered up", so on, so forth. But it is an arcade flight sim where you're a one-man army Dynasty Warriors style, and they're just trying to get you to ration your smart bombs, really - I don't know, I just can't fault the game for it that much, particularly when after playing all three PS2 titles the allied forces in AC6 are plainly much more useful even when you're not doing co-ordinated attacks. It was a rarity in 4, 5 and 0 for your wingman to get a single kill, and you could watch the allied planes do nothing for minutes on end.

Same as me - Didn't know I could focus my allied fire until the final mission I do like to make things harder for myself :/

Help someone, being drunken the other week, I bought the Official Flight Sticks on ebay.com, now, here's my question, do they actually work with the PAL game? Is it worth getting my mate to ship them over, or do I sell them before incurring the expense? Does anyone know? Thank you very much for your time.

Fantastic! These are the NTSC U/C sticks right? I just bought the same from Ebay. This game is so good on the Projector. If only I could get past the 9th mission....

Superb! Bloody expensive, but for me it's worth it. I paid ?160 delivered with UPS from the USA for a sealed box unit. Guy has 100% feedback so fingers crossed.

I just love the visuals of the game, and I think the combination of projector and sticks will be really good fun. :-)

After 1 year and 10 days and god knows how many tries, I finally beat Level 9 yesterday.

The correct use of Allied Support was key, but it was a long and hard battle, and I nailed it on my forth try. (35 minutes each try)

I think this game is sooooo good, and fantastic on the projector.

Even now the visuals are breathtaking.

04 is betterer however. Especially if you have BB Uint support.
                              Kept you waiting, huh?
