In this thread, people have discussed sections they thought were difficult that I thought were were a pushover (e.g. Bowser battles and dardevil boss fights). Also this is the first thing I've encountered in the game so far that I've found tricky, so I'd say it's all relative.
I look forward to sneering and gloating when you come across a section that foxes you a little bit.

I have no problem with either doing it quick and killing myself or completing the rest of the level and collecting the rest of the coins so I'll be better at the course the next time.

Oh, the game's not perfect perfect as far as I'm concerned. Worth a ten as in "this is as pretty much as good as it gets", of course, but... so far it generally seems to be that anything which involves some kind of exacting use of the Wiimote has the potential to be really frustrating. Technically, sure, it's my fault rather than the game's that I can't hold the controller steady in mid-air and fire Mario out of a sling exactly vertically at just the right time, but it doesn't feel right the way the pure platforming feels right. And I agree that Nintendo's attempts to make the game easier grate a little, on occasion. It may be generous that I can hoover up a couple of hundred star bits within a few seconds of restarting, and that all the 1ups reappear when I do, but it doesn't feel... quite right.
It's a great game, a fantastic game, but some people on here seem to let the fact they're capable of collecting all 120 stars in a few days' play blind them to those little things you could quite easily criticise the game for. And that, hey, it's more of their beloved Mario. 64 was exactly the same - ohmyGod! The graphics, the controls, the camera! Whee! ...funny, even back then I could make out the pixelation, struggle with the N64's ghastly controller and jam the camera behind a tree.
It's a humbling reminder of just how talented Nintendo are (and an indication of how much we stand to lose if they mean to back the casual market to the extent they scorn the hardcore). But it's not without its moments where you think "Christ, they could have tweaked that just a little more" - I mean, unskippable cutscenes?

Got 83 stars now and it's starting to get slightly difficult...!
I say slightly because a couple of levels had me cursing a little, despite the fact I actually beat all three Bowser levels (even the final battle) on my first attempt... though I know the game is just about to show me its teeth...Lie with passion and be forever damned...

Well, here's a video that shows everything you get after completing the game with all the stars.
Old, yes I know, but I get up at 4 in the morning every day, allow me some amusement.

Looking for a couple of the hidden stars has led to a few shortcuts. Did you know on the
level with the beach and the underwater excavation (I think it's called Dark Dark something, you don't have to get the fire suit to get through the locked gate? You can shoot yourself with the cannon to the blocks on he left which lead to the underwater bit behind the gate.
I found a few of those last night.

Finished at the weekendDefinite GOTY for me. Probably GOTG as well.
I managed to get to 102 stars before going in for the kill - there's definitely one other star you can do - a hidden one in the Deep Dark Galaxy that I couldn't find... yet.
Now I've got to mop up the remaining
purple coin stars
.
I really enjoyed the Daredevil Comet in the
Melty Molten
galaxy. That was pretty hard but excellent fun.

Yeah I really enjoyed that one too. For the most part, the comets are great. They really put effort into getting the most gameplay out of the areas. There have been one or two purple star ones that I thought were just a little slow but some have been stunning, including the
Battlerock and Dreadnought ones
.
I honestly think that this is one of the best games I've ever played.

Melty Molten
was a swine. I got right near the end on my first go, feeling good about, thinking to myself..I'm going to do this on my first attempt..of course, that thought broke my concentration, i missed the next jump and i
burnt in the lava
I left the stage with 900+ starbits..so you can imagine how many attempts it took me!
Game of the year, without a doubt. Any reviewer who knows anything atall to do with gaming, 10/10. Game of the generation..who knows, it certainly isn't a far-fetched statement to make.
