DOne a couple of hours on this now - great fun and really easy to get into. By far the best game on Wii to date.

I have never really liked 3D Mario games that much, but this one is excellent.

ok my one gripe with mario 64 was the fact you needed to collect alot of stars to progress inc some ones i found frustrating

is this a bit more forgiving ?

Well i didnt find myself struggling for stars to progress, the levels are so good you want to go back in & explore. A new level unlocks every couple of stars.

& nope theres no english option in the jpn version.

Gotten to the second bowser fight today it was a fun level indeed. Still cant stop smiling it's starting to hurt

Found out you can take a snapshot of your star list & send it to people on your friends list, which is pretty cool. Talk to the black star in the main hub next to rosetta to do it, its the icon on the bottom right of the map screen.

You also get letters sent to your wii from toad telling you about lugi's adventures.

Please excuse the silly question matey, but do you have to be online to get those messages from Toad? I love little things like that (really enjoyed Luigi's quirky stories in Paper Mario:Thousand Year Door) and sadly i can't get online as of yet. It's great how Nintendo constantly make fun of poor Luigi. The poor bugger

Mine turned up today, I've put quite a few hours into it and it's just totally sublime. They've really managed to push the genre forward, some of the gravity aspects and moving from planet to planet bits are mind bending. Think it's no secret that the graphics are lush, the art direction is perfect and you can add my name to fanclub for the soundtrack.

I've read that there is a return of some old music from previous Mario games in Galaxy, any from Mario 64? If so which?

Nope the letters from toad appear on your wii after you exit the game, no online required.

Well the bowsers level music makes a return from mario 64 along with the airship music from smb 3. Theres a handful more that i cant remember off the top of my head but im sure theres more from smb 3.

Are there any other modes apart from the main single player game, also, any scoreboards and the like?

Yeah, there's also some of the normal level music from SMB3, there's the Star powerup music (from SMW I think..), the original SMB underwater theme played while collecting notes, and also I've heard the original underground music from SMB a few times. There was a piece that couldn't quite place, I think it might have been taking bits from SM64's Rainbow Cruise, but I could be wrong.

On the screen where you can see your star list & capture a screen shot, theres a screen which displays your best times on the racing levels.

As for other modes in the game, i havent found any others as of yet. The only mode i know of is 2 player assist mode where the 2nd player gets a pointer & can hold onto stuff & shoot star chips to help player one.

Found a totally new powerup today. After unlocking the 5th observatory. Pretty cool so spoiler tags in effect.

On the wat to the 5th observatory theres a little house on a island in space if you enter it has the rabbit planet that you first started out on. If you goto the castle in the middle & talk to rosetta she will make chiko appear, chiko is a red star that gives you the ability to fly, the powerup looks like the star launchers but red & when you transform your outfit is a cool red & black number.

You then have to get all 100 purple coins to get a star but the star you get is red in colour, not sure if its significant yet but very fun.

Got 60 stars & fought bowser for the final time the last level was epic. The ending was really good too.

Just going right back in & getting the remaining 60 stars. Theres still tons of secrets left to unlock. Plus a mysterious green launcher in the hub that wont let me use it unless i have a 2nd player with me hmmm.

How long did it take you mate, is there an in game timer type thing?

Can you get all 120 stars in one play or is it 60 here then 60 there?
