Held off with buying this until last week when my wee boy started nursery and I would have proper time to appreciate it. What can I say, simply stunning and all I can do is simply echo all the thoughts and comments already shared.

I am finding myself constantly grinning whilst playing and genuinely can't think of another game that has made me feel like this since I payed aboout ?450 for a Japanese N64 with Super Mario 64 back in 1996!

Looks great on my Panny Viera via component and sounds great even if it's JUST in DPLII. Controls perfectly and no camera issues so far although I can see a few niggles futher down the line.

Only 12 stars in so far but all my expectations have been met and more.

One question though, is there a set amount of coins per galaxy to collect (i.e 100) or are they all different?

I am about 48 stars in and lovin it BUT my only niggle that I have is with the swimming controls.
I really do not click with them at all like today I opened the galaxy in the engine room that has a water world ,I just let out a sigh.
But the rest of the game is just really a lesson in gameplay for the others. This is the first platform game I have played since Sunshine and coming off the back of 2 years on the 360 this is breath of fresh air.

Only prob with swimming was turning with a limited view. Just kept swimming forward until what I wanted was in front for me to kill.

Due to being swamped at work and home, I really haven't had the time to play SMG extensively - I've been restricted to 5-Star bursts here and there.

So far, I'm 30 Stars in - It's fantastic to see
making an appearance in the game. Such a great touch to see the

Mario Bros. reunited in a true marquee Nintendo game, as they should be.

Also, am I alone in finding the

            Storybook

to be a surprisingly heartwarming, touching and emotive experience?

A simply wonderful and unique experience so far. That said, I still feel that the Camera isn't a patch on that of SM64, and the controls for swimming feel clumsy. But those are minor quibbles.

For some reason I really loved this part of the game and when thinking about my game of the year, this is what gave it the edge over portal. Pure genius.

I've just had a proper go at this after the initial letdown of the first hour, it really has picked up and my negative vibes that I had prior to tonight are being washed away.

Just completed the game with 120 stars. The final unlockable is pretty awesome, I said to myself "wouldn't it be cool if..." and so it turned out to be!

Not sure I can be bothered to complete the game for a second time just to grab the 121st star... A little bit too much work for nill reward? If there's anything spectacular, please let me know!

I didn't find the final portion of the game too difficult. There were a handful of stars (about 5) that were hard work, but they were just hard enough. Overall I thought the game was fairly straighforward, difficulty-wise, but I completed SM64 on the VC very recently, so I probably had the controls down pat.

Totally forgot this game existed! So much for me playing it over the festive period for a nice relaxing feel good time!

Haven't played it since I got to 60 stars and finished it, deffo need to go back and finish all 120 off!

Nope you are not alone mate, I thought that the story book was a brilliant touch too, and although some people thought it did not suit the game, I felt the game would have been empty without it, not knowing why the place known as galaxy came to existence, and the story of the new princess is absolutely beautiful. I think it was a masterstroke, and it didn't click with alot of people cause they just wanted to get on with the platforming, but it wasn't mandatory to go to the library, so I don't know what the griping was about.

I also loved the art style of the story book too, and people griped about this as well, saying it didn't fit with the visual presentation of the game. I wholeheartedly disagree with this too, the whole game use's a beatiful pastel effect, and as this is a storybook which was written by her growing up, it fitted perfectly imho.

It also reminded me of the beautiful presentation of Yoshi Story on the Nintendo 64. I loved that game, and alot of people didn't get that either, not getting that the whole game was a score attacka nd the point of the game was not to just finish the levels, but to search every nook and cranny to finish the levels with melons only.

Still, thats another debate altogether. Super Mario Galaxy is a perfect game if ever there is one in a generation. Every so often one comes along, and for it's time it's perfect....Super Mario World, Sonic the Hedgehog, Yossy Island, Super Mario 64, The Legend Of Zelda: A link to the Past(Super Famicom Zelda no Densetsu;Kami no Triforce) , Nights, The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time, Halo, and now Super Mario Galaxy.

All these game's share one thing in common, they are for the most part made by Nintendo, and set in magical world's tat are totally far from reality, that say's something to me, as to me that is the magic of a videogame. Like a great bowl of magic that sucks you in till you have explored every part of all it's world's.

Super Mario Galaxy is like being taken in a time machine back to when Nintendo was untouchable, and every cartridge they produced, was full of magic, and perfect videogame's for their time.

Nintendo is truly back, and it's no wonder they have taken the japanese and Us market's back, as they are now catering their magic for everyone including people who just want something to divert their time like Brain Traiining, or Endless Ocean. But for me the Nintendo I love, is the studio's of EAD which under Miyamoto has given me some of the greatest gaming moment's of my life, and Super mario galaxy was just another one of those.

For me, Super Mario galxy is Nintendo at it's finest. The question now is, are we going to get more Wii Fit(which I like and admire), or more of this magic. I prefer more of the magic with a little of the touch generation. Though I suppose Nintendo has to stay on top to produce software like this, so the Touch stuff is neccesary as well as welcomed and appreciated.

Now we need a Zelda, done in the srt style of this, or like Link to the past to go along with galaxy andf my life would be complete. Oh and a sequel to Kid Icarus, would be nice too!!!!!!

Daughter's reaction was 'WOW This is Amazing'.

She is really loving it at the moment, the word cute has been used a few times.

She's been playing this and then breaking off to play Ratatouille.

                          Wow, Ratatouille must be AMAZING!

In an effort to get more use out of my Wii, it is now installed at my desk in work, cos the 360 was taking all my attention at home. So now I can get a star or two each day during my lunch break, and to be honest, it's a perfect way of playing this game ... though I do feel like a bit of a tit waving that damn controller around.

So I'm finally getting into it, after about 16 stars. It's very very good, though I have to say that I remember enjoying Mario64 more.

Minor niggle: I'm not a huge fan of the "bittiness" of the levels, most of which so far have been sequences of tiny floating islands that you fly between, with not much scope for exploration. Feels a bit restrictive.

                          Other than that: fantastic.

                          Comment

She is enjoying the bitesize nature of the islands/planets, the goals are contained within a small area keeping her focussed.

Ratatouille isn't too bad actually, camera is a little off at time and the controls can be a bit unrepsonsive(actually that seems to be a Wii theme).

At least it's better than Asterix Olympics, I've not seen a poorer implementation of controls in a game since I can't remember when.

Ive been playing it last two nights at 3am on pethadine as its been the only time ive been well enough to go near it, sense of awe on top drugs is mint flying about and adds to the feel good factor Ive done around 35stars now but for me Im enjoying it even more than my previous fav game ever Mario 64. Feeling the game getting much better now as well so its not as if it gets more mundane it goes for stunning to classic with some very clever use of platform design in 2d and 3d.

Its even made me hunt down a copy of Sunshine on Cube as only ever owned it on JPN but I dont remember playing it due to bad memory (and its since been sold).

Got this last wednesday and have been absolutely gripped by it. I'm currently on 109 stars which shows just how much i've been playing it. The problem is every time I get a star another galaxy or comet appears and I simply must do it. Its absolutely blown me away, who'd have thought it would surpass mario 64. I'd be interested to see if I can ever enjoy 64 quite the same again.

Having said that the swimming does pain me. Seems they got it right in 64 and since then, its gone gradually worse. I'm also not a huge fan of the forced 2d bits as it looks far to much like New mario bros, which is no bad thing but just seems a bit of a let down compared to the 3d gravity mazes.
