This is interesting, on the ME2 thread I noted that the Matriarch fight is the point I also gave up on ME1. For me it was down to poor squad selection and only having one save file right before the fight so I was stuck.

Cavalcade ... permission to
i) cry
ii) kill
iii) ****
I've reached the
talky squizzle in Ilos, entered the Mako, tore through the caverns, found the Conduit, watched the cut scene, raced past the Geth Colossi, entered the bright light
, watched the loading screen, and ...
DISC IS UNREADABLE.
I've cleaned it thoroughly, many times, and no cigar. No wonder it wouldn't install to the HD past 69%. The disc looks fine to me. Definitely not a FarTyDwaD Nazca-special.
I think a combo of i, ii and iii is possible, maybe even all at once. I've poured 45 hours into reaching level 47. And the finish line proves to be an impassible Indiana Jones-style gauntlet of traps.
Cursed, I am.

Just bought this again today, couldn't get into it the first time I tried but want to give it another go now after spending daft amounts of time on the second game.
I've started downloading Pinnacle Station & Bring Down The Sky which I'd bought last time but I seem to remember there was three downloadable episodes that I'd bought but I can't find it in my download list. Was there a third one or am I just making things up now?

I only remember the two.
I'll be vaguely curious as to whether you feel any differently. Most of the first game was mediocre as far as I was concerned, terribly written and unneccesarily fiddly, with only the last level being truly memorable. I couldn't face playing it again after the sequel.

I've only spent about an hour playing so far and it seems OK if a little rough around the edges, hopefully it will hold up as I get into it though.
I've just had a look at the achievements in the game and if I'm understanding them correctly I'm going to have to play through the game about 5 times to get them all. The Ally achievements look like a right pain.
It would be nice to be able to complete this though and take a character through ME 2 and then onto ME 3.

having poured far too much time into Mass Effect 2 I picked this up cheap fully expecting it to be a bit rough round the edges, I love the story element but am finding it a bit of a slog to be honest and not sure, even on easy, how much more I'll do.
the second is such a huge leap in terms of accesability that even a non-fan of the genre like me has it down as GotY

I finished the second game a few weeks ago on the PC. It is a good game, but let down by several key areas.
The acting and the story are fine, I have absolutely no issues with it at all. Either it's your thing or it's not and I found it interesting enough. My big gripe was that the bits in-between the story became an absolute slog. The shooting and the combat never felt right, whilst the exploration on the planets was a farce!
I did about 3 missions on other worlds, but the rewards for the time you spent on those generic land masses was clearly not enough, and after that I completely ignored nearly all the side quests and missions and concentrated on the story.

Originally posted by Charlie View PostI'm surprised more people don't feel like this cos, glittering though the story, characters and cutscenes are, they can't mask the fact that the running around and shooting (ie the guts of the game) is incredibly dull, unrewarding, and ultimately a chore.
Despite not being such an open playground such as Halo, the combat is simple but fun with some variation between if you're more than just a soldier class. There's a huge room for improvement I grant you, and hopefully future Bioware games will take advantage of more cunning AI.
It probably helps that I can't play a game if it's turn based, reliant on random encounters or has any other such interface that just gets in the way of me destroying the enemy looking right at me! That's why I could not play a single Bioware game before Mass Effect and let Dragon Age go literally within the space of 24 hours. That's not even mentioning more complete disdain for JRPG's!
