    Kane & Lynch: Dead Men

Got this today from VG+ (3 days shipping by airmail! ) and finished it too

I really enjoyed it, there are some definite problems but it was a lot of fun and the presentation and story were both pretty good. What really grabbed me was how it was like a Michael Mann film: gunfights in the street with cops, the funky music, even some of the dialogue. I'm a major Michael Mann whore so it really appealed to me. Talking about the dialogue there is a LOT of swearing in the game. Even for simple things like when you need an adrenaline shot to get you up you can hear Lynch saying 'I'm not your ******* nurse!' The voice acting by everyone involved is also excellent, you can believe that they are these characters and they aren't over the top cliches. There were also a number of different locations too which kept it interesting and making you wonder where it would go, my favourite so far by a long shot was

the Tokyo Nightclub, fantastic stuff and some great shootouts and atmosphere in it

Downsides would be the cover system which isn't exactly great, you more have to position yourself near the edge of a wall and the body will automatically stick to it. Can be a bit of a pain in the arse at times. Another thing would be the dumb as hell AI, more from your teammates than the enemy (though they aren't the brightest either). As for the guys you are with, another annoying thing is that if any of them get badly shot up you have to give them an adrenaline shot which during a big fire fight can be a major pain in the arse at times, especially as if they die you have to restart from a checkpoint. I also noticed a few times where the difficulty spike just seemed to shoot up, the majority of the game wasn't too bad (on normal) but there were a few sections that were maddeningly hard. Not enough to crack me up completely but just were it seemed out of whack with the rest of the game. The graphics are also just like Hitman: Blood Moneys on the 360, nothing special game engine wise. Hit detection can also be a bit twitchy at times but I didn't find it too bad, the guns have recoil to them so you can't just shoot continuously like in a lot of other shooters, you have to aim and use short controlled bursts.

Overall though I had a great time with the game, yes there are things wrong with it but not enough to really hurt the game too much (depending on your opinion of course!) I got really drawn into the story and characters from the get go, it was like the start of a movie which just sucked you in and kept you interested - which lead me to flying through it one day, really got into it which doesn't happen too often.

The game was also about 7 - 8 hours long.

I keep hearing it takes 3 to 4 headshots to put down the cops and a ton of bullets anywhere else to putt hem down surely thats enough to put anyone off playing this.

In general it didn't take that long to put anyone down, usually 3 - 4 bullets. Headshots did tend to be one bullet shots but yeah it can be a bit twitchy at times, but nothing too severe I found, certainly not enough to really hurt the game.

Played the first couple of missions of this and I really didn't wana put myself through any more pain so I turned it off. What a major let down, this could have been something really good but it just turn out to be a below average 3rd person squad based shooter. Graphics are not what I expect from a 'next gen' game at all, bar some nice lighting effects here and there this looks like it could have been done on a PS2 or Xbox. Even if it didn't look that great it could have great gameplay but it fails in this category too. Aiming is way too sensitive, and when you do finally aim at an enemy it takes him ages to go down. At one point I pumped an ememy cop at point blank range with bullets and he did not die. During the first mission I shot an enemy who was right in front of me in the head and again he did not go down! The cover system is random at best, you are supposed to latch on to cover whenever you are near it but it takes forever for the game to recognise you are trying to get behind cover, this resulted in me dying a few times and it was very very annoying. This game really makes you appreciate the great cover system Epic implemented in Gears of War, that was excellent whereas this is utter tripe. Enemy AI is also extremely erratic, I walked (not ran, walked) right past an enemy on a few occassions and he just stood there waiting for me to shoot them.

Those are the bad points, any good points you ask? Well from what I played I could see that the story has some substance to it and if the game was actually decent the story would compliment it very well but alas this was not to be. Also Kane and Lynch seem to be two very good characters and they compliment each other pretty well, with dialogue between the two actually being enjoyable to witness. That's it really, all I can say is that this game is a major letdown and will be going back to the shop tomorrow to be exchanged for Ace Combat, shame really.

          Is this really that bad?

I was so looking forward to this as a xmas gift.

Was in my top list along with Halo3, Cod4, Assin Cre, Mas Ef etc.

If it's really that bad, I let it drop.

Darn it, why could they not put more time and effort in this awesome idea of games that become flops.

Makes me worried thinking all this wait and hype for Army Of Two will be a let down.........lets hope not.

Wish they delay UK release and fix it to be a awesome game.

You sometimes thinkg.. Do they actually have people testing these games or just goats?
Who could let such a buggy, unplayble thing be released?

From what u guys say if the aim, the cover system worked it be a goodish game...

            Shame.

The games dire, Ive had police officers die stood up like a scarecrow and they turn into metalic sounding objects. The AI is thick on both yours and theirs and it has terrible path finding and scripted push sections. Spent ages on one bit and couldnt understand what I was doing wrong and it turned out I wasnt it just was random if it kicked the next bit in.

Shame on you guys after lovely Hitman!

I second that. As i use to be a tester myself.

I'll still be trying it out myself, its made by IO. There must be some sort of quality there, from what ive seen of it. It reminds me of freedom fighters, which was quality.

Blimey Daz, I think Frank Carson`s job is safe!

Against my better judgement I`ve just picked this up on PC World`s two for ?60 deal (the other game being Mass Effect) and so far I haven`t encountered any of the gaming "evil" that has been discussed here but I guess it`s early days.

I do my best m8 Dunno how far you got but I got it slowing down like crazy on the chase section not far in (I had everything maxxed apart from AA and AF and even upping then or lowering made no difference one min fine next laggy).

                            hmmm

I'm up spadling this weekend visiting the family.

Today I took my younger brother out to his local town to buy Mass Effect, He saw Kayne & Lynch and go that too the rich barstard.

Anyway we got home and did co-op straight away.

Gotta admit, it has everything every says here.

The dodgy check points where it randomly kicks off the next bit when your waiting around.

The dodgy hit detection, sometimes its really good but others wow its worse than anything.
And just weird stuff going on.

But the graphics are cool, the integrated story, characters and the actual style of play going in banks and both going diffrent ways to combat levels is pretty dam awesome.

I actually think it makes up for tyhe bad, yea its no where good as it has been hyped to be, but me and my brother are loving the co-op.

We both even said, if you bought this and sat down alone at it your think its well ****, I really think you have to play it with a friend in co-op to forgive its bad points.

Were enjoying it, although at times it feels a chore as u die randomly after shooting people in the face who survive.

But neveraless, its pretty dam cooL! Really enjoy being proper nutters and ****ing people up.
                            lol

If they get this kinda cliche of games off the ground with better mechanics, it be awesome.

Worth a buy then a exchange once complete, but defo worth a try dudes!

I played it alone and really enjoyed it though I will admit in my case I absolutely love Michael Mann/crime heist films so I was able to forgive the annoyances and really get into it plus I love the characters and dark humour

such as Lynch killing everyone important making more trouble for them both

I would really love to see IO patch it and give online co-op but it's a nogo from what they said before about it (though you never know may have just been due to time constraints, well it's near enough certain it was)
