i find the heavier karts need slightly longer to get the engine sound/revs up to do a boost, whereas the little un's can over-rev more quickly.

i tend to use the tactic of waiting until the 2 just starts to fade then pressing donw, but this needs adjusting a little for the big uns.

Ive heard peeps say to do fast starts wait till 2 just disapears but Ive found another way easier and can do it everytime now. Easiest way to get boost starts is to watch the cloud guy instead of the 2. Watch his hand go down twice then the second time it goes up Just before it gets to the top then hold accel down. Different vehicles react differently to it though some you can get way with his hand just over half way back up some its right near the top before it burns out. Basically you will see his hand go down and up with one then its the next one you watch go back up and press for.

As for comments about MK Wii being abit meh from first impressions. I thought the same thought it was as bad as MK64 for hours but now its as good as Snes one for me

I think the number of different opinions on how to do it shows how easy it must be!

Im sure i use to do it on the green on the n64 one, so which is what i was doing on this one.

Did the coins have any effect on anything in the first one? i can't remember.

I think your top speed increased after you had so many. Also if you ahd no coins and got bumped by someone you would instantly spinout.

                This isn't good...

My Wii is now refusing to read my Mario Kart disc.

On the main menu screen with the movies behind the icons (single player / wfc / channel / multiplayer), it can't load them and just tells me the game disc cannot be read.

If I VERY quickly choose the option I want to play, it will work, but whenever I quit out of that game and want to do something else I need to turn the wii off and on again.

Looks like you have to get nintendo to clean it out for you.

                    My thoughts:

The online battle mode is flawed. The courses are too big, there aren't enough item boxes and there are too many 'junk' powerups. If you've <10 players, you spend too long trying to find enemy players, if you've >10, it's too hard to get item boxes. Green shells are next to impossible to aim, especially as the three shells go off in almost random directions. I find it all too easy to end up with low scores because you're just never near enemy players when you've good items.

The forced teaming is just pointless, the game would be far better with 8 player FFAs with slightly shrunk maps.

Also the less said about getting -100 points because you got hit twice just before the end in coin mode the better.

Race modes are fun although again the courses are too long. Not a fan of the bikes (especially as the CPU seems to kick my arse on them).

Just got my copy today, didn't get much time to play before work

The wheel felt really strange to play with, so i may just stick to classic controller.
One thing which really bothers me is how Nintendo don't seem to be supporting d-pad use on their games...The thumbstick is ok for Mario Kart but i'd be infinitely more happy playing games with a D-Pad.
                      I woulda thought offering 4 types of control method at least one of them would LET YOU CHOOSE the d-pad -_-;

But other than that, great game so far. Will post up my friend code in the other thread later today.

Also how do you send the mail to your wii console friends? I got 3 mails from people in my list for their codes, but i couldn't seem to find the option to send anyone mine? Looked in the mario kart channel and found nothing.
(My game is Japanese if that makes any difference)

Mario Kart on the SNES was all about pure skill, in terms of racing and weapons. It was something you could really master and really get your teeth into. Everything counted in Super Mario Kart. It was like mastering chess!

Nothing will ever compare to it!

Mario Kart died on consoles a long time ago.

There was only one Super Mario Kart and there will never be another!

After I paid ?95 for my JAP version of Mario Kart 64 I knew it was the end. :-(

If you had no coins, being hit by another kart caused you to spin out. I miss the coins too.

The mario Kart battle mode was the most pure experience, was perfectly ballenced. the courses tight and cramped and all weapons had their uses.

I use the sound to tell when to hit the accelerator. I believe I hit it as soon as the second beep ends.

Hardly. AI cheated so badly in 150cc. For example, Mario & Luigi could activate star when ever they wanted, computer opponents karts were faster than yours, and everybody had so insane reaction speed that they could hop even over red shells. Rubberbanding in later MK games is so much tamer.
