Ive seen this man play Geometry wars. he goes into some mystical trance where he just zones out. All hell could be breaking loose around him, but he is in this state of shooting Nirvana that cannot be broken. (until he finishes his turn on it) scary stuff.

I guess you're right, Malc. This guy IS Jesus.

Seriously, I spent two hours straight this afternoon training on Deadline. All I could do was barely top my previous high score. Save for one or two silly mistakes, I might have reached the 25-30M mark, but there is NO WAY I could have reached Steverulez's 80M+.

There must be something we mortal beings haven't yet grasped in the way Geo 2 works. I fly through doors and destroy black holes, sending myriads of enemies into oblivion (and substantially boosting my score in the process), so how come I get stuck around 20M when others score FOUR times as much as I do? Is there a secret trick?
There IS a secret trick... right?

      Sooo depressing.

In that interview he alludes to chaining gates. I think. Or maybe he doesn't. I haven't had enough gates on the screen to chain anyway.

I did however raise my own highscore to 9 million something today and more feels within reach

The more I think of it, the more I am convinced the key to making big points is, in addition to chaining gates and black holes, occupying the central part of the screen.
When all hell starts to break loose around us, our first instinct is to get as close as possible to the edges of the play area, and travel in a circle from then on. Although it does help not running into enemies, it also prevents us from collecting the packs of geons our ship would have automatically swallowed had it been in a more central position.

That's what makes the difference between us and the champs : while we can barely survive away from the walls, semi-god players like Steverulez simply manage to shoot their way through the pack, scoring much faster than we do.

I have tested the theory in the early stages of the Deadline mode - when those pesky snakes have not turned the centre of the arena into an impassable rempart yet -, and I sure made more points than if I had stayed close to the walls. A key to surviving might be to dispose of snakes as soon as they appear. Easier said than done.

got back into the pacifism zone this afternoon after coming home from work to find an abusive message off the american dude on my friends list - screaming he beat my score of 137 million.. How do i like that b***h... replied with a nice 299 million just to shut him up on my second go.. somehow putting americans straight really is rather fun...

I've been putting off getting GW2 as despite enjoying the 1st one I found the controls using the standard 360 pad horrible.

The trouble is the the analogue sticks are in round gates and I just can't aim accurately when I can't find the sweet spots for various directions. I keep getting killed when I can't be accurate. Anyone else find this a problem? I really want a controller with proper ocatagnal gates like the gamecube one.

Sweet spots? How would shooting in eight directions be MORE accurate than shooting in 360 directions?

Octagonal gates would help during the early moments of the game when you have time and space to position yourself at 90 degree/right angles to your foe. The thing to bear in mind is in no time at all Geometry Wars gets hectic to the point where positioning your ship at predetermined or preferred angles isn't possible, and when that happens octagonal gates would definately hinder, not help, aiming.

                            It's fantastic isn't it!!

If only more games took note of it's excellent use of the leaderboards and ubber quick start another game ability (Trials is another one that spings to mind) then I'm sure people would keep playing them for longer.

Still a shame that a third one didn't come out as I remember the guys behind this one saying that they had loads more ides that they were wanting to try out.
