Sweet, finally got this yesterday and I love it. Had a 3 hour WHD sesh with my neighbour and beat him on all but 2 races (split screen) Did some full screen races to open up some more tracks. Best ship for me so far is the Gotiki 45. Love the Zone mode - what was removed from that re epileptics? Did it just flash more? Is there anyway to have an offline two-player splitscreen race with NO AI racers? Answers on a postcard (or here. yeah here, postcards take too long )

Just awesome though - I can see me playing a lot of this into the wee hours tonight and for many months to come!

I think I hit my wall with this.

I just can't get acceptably good at Phantom speed and although I've got a few golds on the events I've attempted the runs just aren't acceptable enough for me to consider them cleared. I just seem to be bouncing around the course.

Zone mode originally had level meters that flashed in time to the music I heard.

Yeah I guess it was never going to work that well if it was just sync-ed with the music that you heard mate!

Sorry, being cheeky, thanks - that's what I had thought.

Still has, but not on all graphical styles. IIRC, level meters are clearly shown when the track is black

We'd all sit there for a couple of minutes, then people would start dropping out - go to the lobby, join the next game - see all the same names come in and again the host doesn't start the race!!

Are people just not realising they have become the new host? Maybe they should change the display colour of the hosts screen to make it more obvious or something.

There was one guy who's race session was sitting at the top of the list all night, usually with 6-8 players waiting to go.. and he never once started the game.
yep, I know this, this happens a lot. I can understand when host wants to wait for a full field of 8 people, but often when 8 join, everyone is still waiting for the host to actually start the race.....
When all would have mic's you could try to find out what's going on, now you're just waiting there till everyone drops out again to the next lobby. So to solve this I always start a lobby myself most of the time it quicker to get a full lobby then it is to join lobby after lobby....

Patch 1.10 is up, haven't seen it mentioned here. I know it fixes the PSN friends issue, not sure about anything else.

Still don't see most of your times when I check against my records.

Finally managed that gold on Chenghou Project to fully complete grid five and I have all gold but the Rapier time trial on Sol 2 for grid six - and I'm pretty sure I can do that one without too much trouble.

EDIT: Patch notes. Installed fine on mine.

The update seems to have added an attract sequence.. or possibly it was always there and I never waited long enough before starting the game! But I haven't seen it before anyway

Well, my claims that Phantom was too much for me were clearly premature.

Up at 7am this morning, loaded it up and it just clicked. I'm still not flawless at it yet but I actually feel like I'm earning the golds instead of bouncing around the tracks at high speed. In the space of a couple of hours I've picked up gold on every Meltdown event except the final Tournament event in the centre which I will attempt later.

The improvement is so pronounced that I went back to Racebox to try and get a couple of trophies and Rapier felt slow.

Also went back to Zone mode on Moa Therma and picked up the Own the Zone trophy (20 consecutive perfect zones - very tense at zone 18) and finished up at zone 40.

                      I love this game!

I hope I get the same breakthrough with Phantom class.. right now my attempts are just stupid. At such high speed it's incredibly easy to catapult yourself off the track, even at 'safe' sections. Just one slightly over-zealous touch on the airbrake and you swing up so high you go clear over the wall. I've even found myself going off on the start/finish straight at Vineta K (without boosting). I've run along the top of the barriers on other circuits. However, amazingly I came in first place on Sebenco Climb (which is easily my most hated one!)

Can anyone advise which ship to use on the Chengdou race in the WARPED section please? I've found that Gotiki 45 seems to be the best but I still don't seem to be able to place higher than about 5th each time. Any hints or tips? I've got GOLD on two of the other WARPED races but just can't place on Chengdou - HELP!

                          Thanks

                          Dan

Chengdou is one tricky race - my advice is to find your own car rather to use what everyone uses. That said, cars with high maneuverability (AG System, Feisar, Assegai) will greatly help in getting around all the corners of the track without using airbrakes.
When racing against the AI and online I favor the AG System car as it has an excellent thrust and handling, so that I won't need to slow down in all but the tighest curve and if I hit something (which happens a lot) I won't need too much time getting back to high speeds.

It sure is tricky especially as one seems constantly under attack. I know the course well now as I have done it so many times and know where all the weapon and speed pick ups are, but the AI is fierce! I think you're right about the emphasis on thrust and handling - I'll have another look tonight and see which ship works best for me. Although I love the Gotiki 45, I think perhaps it's not best suited to this race.

                              Thanks for the advice

[EDIT] And I've just realised that Pilot Assist is still on, so I think it would a good idea to turn that off!

Dan, are you talking about single races? So against the enemy craft? If that's the case, I'd say Goteki is a really good all-rounder for that. The two main pieces of advice I could give is to first practice the track in time trial for a bit in the same craft and speed class so you are in the best position to get an early lead and then manage your pickups. Don't worry so much about your attack weapons. Make sure you absorb what you can to keep your shields up - that will remove one worry from the race.

Your most valuable pickup is the shield. Not only does it save your energy, but it means you won't lose time by getting hit with something. If you hang on to a weapon you don't really need as you go over a weapons pad, you've missed out on a chance to get a shield.

So absorb what you can and keep trying for a shield. Unless you get a quake, which has to be the greatest weapon for turning the tides in a race. As soon as you get one of those, let it fly and try to take the lead.

The quicker you get a lead, the more likely it is you will win the race. If you're in front, you don't have mines or bombs to contend with and can race it like a time trial, not a battle.
