Dunno about story but in terms of atmosphere, yes it is quite similar to Doom 3.

I am on chapter 3 now (trying to take it easy with this) and still loving it. Chapter 2 introduced a short section

    outside the ship

    and also a pretty cool

    zero gravity

area. Oh also the scares and creepiness just keep on coming!

Are there "monster cupboards" like Doom? (i.e empty room, turn around and wall opens up where monster was having a cup of tea or somesuch?)

Nothing like that so far, every attack from the creepies has been within reason.

Set in space, one ship sent to investigate what is going on another ship, strange going ons......the similarities are certainly there.

Haven't unveiled enough of the story to judge if its a "rip-off" but I can certainly see influences from Event Horizon and Aliens.

                  Not really, no.

If it was an Event horizon rip off, there wouldn't be any enemies to fight until right at the end. And it would suck.

The only similaties between this and Event Horizon is its atmosphere and the ship itself.

I like Event Horizon its the only good film Anderson has done. I think it has more references to the original Alien, John Carpenter's The Thing & you could also say 2001 (as in the monolith, although a different take on it) if you wanted.

My resolve to play this is breaking. I want to play it but I also want to finish Silent Hill.

Has anyone tried the free suit you can download from the relevant PSN store?

                        There is one?

                        I'll download that later.

EDIT: I forgot my thanks to Mike, was in a rush to get my flu jab. Thanks Mike!

Pretty sure I'll be picking this up but I'm not sure on which platform to go for. Any notable differences between the 360 and PS3 versions?

Still waiting for my copy from Play-Asia...getting concerned now what with my Raiden 4 order going missing & this taking over a week as well

Cant ever remember them taking this long before

Been reading this thread over & over & I'm dying to play it now.

I've just finished the first act of the PS3 version. I'm quite impressed so far.

The enemies so far are pretty ridiculous to me and aren't scary except in a jumping-out-from-around-the-corner kind of way, which is slightly disappointing, but I know from videos that there are some bigger enemies at the very least, and I assume that there's some variety in the basic baddies as well.

The ship is indeed very Event Horizon, though only stylistically and not thematically. In terms of cinema references, I'd say it's much more like the original Alien. The ship has that mix of grittiness and occasional sterile whiteness that the ship in the film had; watch the bit from the end of Alien when Ripley's going back for the cat and it pretty much is the Ishimura.

Overall, though, very good. Top notch graphics and amazing audio design - I'm tempted to hold off until the weekend when I'm alone and can crank the sound. The atmosphere is suitably oppressive and even if I haven't seen anything properly scary yet, it's still tense when you have a few of the enemies bearing down on you while you abandon precision shots at the limbs in a desperate attempt to do enough damage to put them down.
