Can people please give some indication of where the spoilers are from as well? I'm at the beginning of Act 3 and I have to sneak along a word at a time to see whether people are talking about somewhere beyond where I am.
As for the end of Act 2...
That was unexpected, to say the least. I was having flashbacks to the sphincters in Halo 2 and 3 and the amount of blood in the final cut-scene was ridiculous
Also, Submission mode is insanely good fun with a full complement of players. Have a go if you haven't.

Guys, is anyone getting any bugs in multiplayer coop? There seems to be some sill lag or something, sometimes one of us cant use cover, or miss cut-scenes etc.
It can be pretty game breaking to be honest. Just wondered if its a problem with the game or our connection?
We are both on the same NAT type, and we are playing with 2 consoles in the same house.
Thanks in advance!

I got skanked early on in
the hospital. I went into that large room with the statue below where the locust are retreating and you're ordered to stop them. I knacked them all then turned left to go around the walkway and down the steps. My comrades where all squatting between the pillar and the abandoned trolley, meaning I couldn't get past at all.
It was only only a brief reload but annoying nevertheless.

Chainsaw the arms when they come down, not shoot them, even though it works for the first one, then the second part you need to shoot its eye and run into its mouth, then you need to shoot the blue tenticaly things and with a bit of luck throw a grenade in the hole when it opens up,, you need to do that 3 times.
There are a few moments in this game like this one, it dosent seem to want to explain what you need to do and seems to have been rushed in places concerning boss fights, yet luckily its always extreamly satisfying when you manage it.
You could almost say certain sections of this have an old school trial and error type charm infact.Last edited by rmoxon; 09-11-2008, 00:21.

Sure.
You have chainsaw each tentacle as it comes on the boat, there are usually three of them. Then when it comes up and bites the boat you shoot one of the blue eyes, this has to be done twice too I think. Then when it opens up its mouth, go inside and shoot the blue tipped small tentacles. Once you have done that enough some sort of hole inside the mouth will open, you have to throw a grenade in there. If done correctly you will be back out of it's mouth and on the boat again. I think this needs to be repeated 3 times to defeat the boss.
That should do it

ARGH, so sad, the solo campaign has alas come to an end. Oh well, it was great while it lasted. It must have took me about eleven or twelve hours on Normal difficulty. Played it in four or five sessions and each one was better than the last. I really should have set my privacy setting to offline, because I've never had so many invites. Nice to be made to feel popular, but it was kinda annoying trying to get on with the campaign when game invites kept popping up on the screen every five minutes. That Horde mode must be pretty good, eh? Seems like everyone wants to play that.
As for the campaign, it ain't perfect, but it's not far off. Just a little rough around the edges. I ran into a few annoying glitches here and there. I wasn't keen on the new collectibles, either. Nice idea to to try and expand on the Gears universe a little...but I dunno, just didn't get the same buzz like I did with the COG tags in the first one. Maybe because the concept of achievements was new to me back then and they don't mean an awful lot to me now.
No doubt about it, the single player experience has been greatly improved. The story is still no great shakes, but at least there has been some effort put into telling one this time, and to be fair it does a decent job of getting you to move from point A to B, while providing enough motivation to kick ass and take names in the process. Not that I needed any, mind. For all the improvements made in other areas, the combat is still as satisfying as it always was. I suppose 'satisfying' is a strange word to use when talking about killing, but I'm sure even Mother Teresa would have let out a "F*** yeah!" if she pulled off a perfectly timed reload, then took out a locust with a headshot. Marcus is still about as graceful as a tank, though. More than a few times he performed moves I never intended him to make. Like running around in the open like a mental when I wanted him to duck for cover.
It is a great looking game, I think. Brown is still the dominant colour, if that kind of thing grinds your gears, but it seems Epic have taken previous criticisms onboard and spruced things up a bit. They have added different shades of brown now. And more subtle greys! Personally, I thought the last game was a stunner, and this even more so. The amount of detail is staggering. Just a shame you don't have time to take it all in as you're thrown from one set piece to another with hardly a pause for breath. I know I've missed out on loads of great stuff because the action is relentless at times. Some of the locations are like being transported into a Frank Frazetta painting and the monsters like something out of a Ray Harryhausen film, and the action gets more and more intense and frenetic as the story progresses. Suddenly a Gears film doesn't sound such a bad idea. Just get Peter Jackson or John Milius to do it. For the love of God not Len Wiseman.
The single player campaign, fun as it was, did seem a lot easier to me than the last one, though. There were one or two trigger bashing sections that made me feel like I had rigor mortis in my fingers and some mildly annoying trial and error sections, but nothing that made me want to throw the pad at the TV. Of course, that might just be down to familiarity with how Gears plays, or because I was playing it on Normal, which is after all just one step up from Retard, but I never encountered anything as insanely difficult as that General Raam fecker. Though it does help that your teammates are no longer total dumb asses. I mean, Dom must have rescued me more times than I rescued him, so who is the dumb ass now? Hmmn...
Anyway, now I've unlocked Insane, I'll give that a go. Probably with a little help from a friend. Be interesting to see how insane it actually is.
Just one last thing. Really like the score to this. It's bombastic, chest pounding stuff and really drives the story along. The kind of music Thor probably listens to on his iPod.

I've found lowering the sfx and raising the dialogue helps...especially with the part a lot of you are having trouble with. fenix actually shouts what to do with each phase of the battle.
my problem with it is its so easy. with GOW 1 I played it on normal, struggled with hardcore and couldn't get past act 4 on insane. this time we started on hardcore and have breezed thru everything except me drunkenly falling thru holes in the ice! only got 2 chapters left now too. it is definitely a lot longer tho.

I'm also not sure about it being longer to be honest, its just quite different, at the same time as being the same.Last edited by rmoxon; 09-11-2008, 02:41.
