I was exaggerating in my post somewhat. Thing is, from the few hours of the campaign I played it seems that there are just Soooooooo many games out that are better than this that i cannot imagine wanting to play R2 again. Sounds like I may be missing out but there you are.

I just thought it was a lot poorer than the first one, I don't know why.

I like the premise and the universe just fine. I don't like the complete lack of any real AI, the poor level design, the throwaway weapon lineup where two or three are clearly far more practical than any of the others, the lazy bosses - the amount of people who are clearly, clearly, clearly just in love with the colossus because he's big is hilarious - the waste of a decent storyline, the poorly implemented setpieces... I still can't understand how the first Resistance was any better, either.

The single-player campaign is still worth it for the atmosphere and general spectacle, even if it does never really accomplish what it sets out to do. But it's not one to bump to the top of anyone's list.

I really don't understand the hate. What..I say something positive (I don't mean that personal) and its so bad. What other games of this genre have you been playing. Even if that is rhetorical..all I'll get is a list of elitist comments and a games list.

The pacing of the whole game is beautiful. You have a mini gun battle, then you get a decent set piece. It pratically plays like that from start to finish apart from the very pleasing quiet moments that ease the tention.

On a graphical side note, it looks pretty goddamn amazing for the best part of the game. The PS3 cleary has power that will eventually blow our minds if it can do this 2 years on.

I don't know...that sounds all defensive..but it wasn't meant like that. Just I felt and think its a very decent game.

            Sorry.

I agree with ShadowDancer and thought this was a brilliant game, probably the best FPS shooter I've ever played along with Bioshock. I loved the style, the locations, the weapons, the enemies... everything really.

              Admittedly it's not perfect. The

              chimera airship

levels are a little uninspired; the ending is almost anti-climatic; and the whole story, although enjoyable, is fairly prosaic. Plus I don't do online gaming so can't comment on that but as a single player experience I'd definitely rate Resistance 2 above GTA IV, Killzone 2 and Resident Evil 5.

I Don't hate it. I don't care enough about the game to hate it.
It just doesn't do anything well enough to warrant playing through.

                The AI is terrible.
The texture work is awful at times
                The levels are uninspired.
It does nothing at all to elevate itself above Quake 2 in the gameplay stakes
It has frustrating insta death sections, like the Massive no no of jumping sections. The only reason half-life got away with that is because the rest of the game was amazing.
Instead of enjoying the game, i just get the feeling i could be doing better things with my time - like the hoovering
There is no strategy involved in the gun battles, just shoot them until they fall over.

Im genuinely trying to think how on earth anyone can enjoy this game like you two have, but i've come to the conclusion you haven't played any FPS's since Doom or are trying to wind us up.

                  Eurogamer - 9/10
                  Famitsu - 33/40
                  Gamespot - 9/10
                  Gametrailers - 9.1/10
                  IGN - 9.5/10
                  OPM UK - 9/10

Surely those scores from respected sources must make you think it's just not your cup of tea rather than it being a crap game? I mean I didn't like GTA IV but I'd be a bit of a goon if I went around saying it's rubbish.

Not at all in my case.

I love First Person Shooters. I even love bad games. But this game just repulsed me in ways I can't even begin to describe.

Those scores are wrong. Every single one of them. IMO.

No, it makes me think that sony spent alot of money paying them all off.

Becuase its not a very good game at all.

GTA IV is overrated, but I can understand why, there are few games that are actualy truley like it, and nothing with its depth and level of detail.

Resistance 2 is just a badly made First Person Shooter, and there are plenty of those about. PC magazines review about 10 of them every issue.

I liked it personally, but then I like the premise and the universe that's been created, and that goes a long way for me. Certainly not as good as the first (Hopefully IG learn from this and forget the forced scale in R3) but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I also sunk a lot of time into the online co-op.
Me too, agree with every point you make.

Enjoyed it very much, particularly the coop.

There were bits I didn't like which made it less enjoyable than the first, the lighting, short arsed viewpoint and the scripted stupid bosses, why oh why have some really scary huge looking b*ast's only for you to have to shoot a bridge at a certain point or run over here/there or somewhere to trigger the next bit, you should have been able to take them on in your own way.
Talking about scripts I also didn't like the fact when you are walking along and find a certain weapon which then meant 'oh right so I'm going to face x, y, or z type enemy'.

Very, very enjoyable but lots of flaws.

Ultimately if you want realism then stay away, for me it was a tongue in cheek arcade type shooter, compared to say the likes of Killzone which is more of a sim in my eyes.

Its nothing to do with the lack of realism. The main criticism I have with Resistance 2 is that while the Bosses are oddly easy, many of the other enemies are extreamly cheap, they charge stright out you, are over powered and require luck to deafeat.

Thats not good, that means the game is badly made.

I think you're missing the point, the enemies are designed to try overwhelm you with their size and numbers rather than strategy. I mean if they're stupid and die easy then why do people complain about dying too many times and enemies requiring luck to defeat?

I agree with the boss criticisms but still I don't think it ruins or even detracts from the game.

I didn't have that problem - not that I'm good at shooters, far from it.

Still, if you didn't like it fair enough.
