I started playing this a few days ago, and I really don't get what I'm supposed to do when the police turn up. I'm stuck on a bit at the moment where there's a room I need to work out how to get through, but after about 30 seconds a load of SWAT blokes come in. As far as I can tell I can't kill them or disarm them, so if I've not worked out the puzzle by then do I just let them kill me? What's the game expecting me to do?

I'm really enjoying the jumping puzzling bits, but how is being shot at while you're trying to do it supposed to make the game more fun?

And why is there no manual save so I can go back to the bit I'm actually stuck at rather than having to redo stuff I've already done next time I load it up?

I think I know the place you're talking about. Is it where there's 4 or 5 levels of offices and lots of glass to smash through; with a water fountain on what side of the room?

If it's the same part i'm thinking of then you are supposed to run away from the SWAT guys and keep moving up higher through the offices. Remember that only enemies that are highlighted in red should be fought, the rest of the time you should always be running away as that's the whole point of the game.

Just remember to use the B button to point you where you need to get to, as well as that you can smash down glass like you open a red door, even when jumping.

Once you get a floor or two above the ground floor when the SWAT come you should be OK as they can't climb up to you.

You can disarm / kill all the human enemies in the game.

The bit you're describing could be any level in the game since it happens a lot. If it is the bit that Malc was on about the best thing to do is grab the gun off Ropeburn's desk before you leave. You can use that to smash the glass before doing the 180 jump because sometimes punching or kicking the glass as you go means you'll fall down and have to try again.

Just played through this over the last few days. What a stunning game! I was dissapointed at how quickly it ended (must have been about 5 hours total) but that aside, I'm baffled as to how this game could have got bad reviews. It controls brilliantly, looks lovely, and wasn't nearly as difficult or frustrating as people have made out.

I'm just playing through on hard now, and having a go at the speed runs. The top times are sickeningly good.

Just finished it, but it took quite a while longer than five hours for me!

Can't wait to get cracking on the time trials but first I need to sort out my gold sub as it expired today! Was just about to start HD remix, too

I've now got all the achievements apart from doing the speedruns of chapter 2 onwards, as they take 8-10 mins on some of the levels and require a lot of concentration otherwise if you muck it up in the last minute then you've got to replay another 8 minutes.

              Brilliant game.

Indeed and finding it quite frustrating too, being hunted down by the entire army just isn't fun. I can understand the bad reviews for this game, too much of the jumps require trial and error.

Just starting playing it yesterday and I must be getting old as I found it so frantic that I was stressed out to the point of near heart attack playing it.
After you finish the game is there any sort of free run thing you can do where you just enjoy yourself and not get shot at every 30 seconds?

I tried, but their guns never seemed to turn red. Or at least, not in the two second gap between me getting close to one and dying.

It wasn't so much the specific bit I was stuck on but the general approach to the game that I'm not sure I'm getting. If I've not worked out a puzzle by the time the police run into the room there doesn't seem to be anything I can do other than let them kill me, respawn, get back to the bit I'm stuck on then try again. But that's so obviously rubbish that I feel I must be missing something.

It feels like I imagine Portal would if after 30 seconds of experimenting in a puzzle room, they chucked a load of Combine at you, killed you and made you start over.

You have played through the tutorial?
You can build up a limited amount of 'power' to slow down time which is useful for disarming.

This for me is what makes the game. It builds up adrenaline and ensures you make snap decisions. Usually you have enough time to work out the route before being overwhelmed. As mentioned above, don't forget B points you in the right direction.

Could be a number of areas. You only ever have to fight once with the SWAT standard guys (underground car park just after coming down a ladder I think around level 7 or 8) rest of time you can always run away from them.

If its the one with shopping mall and you go thru some rooms being renovated and at the end its 2 guys stood outside a windowed area what you have to smash thru then dont run to the end of that room DONT SMASH your way thru and wall flip on the right just past them where their waiting outside (in same room repeat dont go out) and turn flip to the walkway above. The game is full of bits like this all over their is always away past them.

This was it for me too.

It was a real rush to have to be in a situation where you had to make real split second decisions about fight or flight.

And playing it through with no intention of using a weapon disarming the real obstacles only) was the icing on the cake - it's how it's meant to be played.

Wow chapter 8 is gaming hell. All the bad things I said about Prince of Persia I take it back, there's a new king in town.

The jump at 5:08 minutes in, is a nightmare, its just down to luck.

They made that way more difficult than it needed to be so they could show off.

I just don't get the comments people are making about this game being frustrating, it didn't boil my blood once (and it wasn't like I didn't die more times than I can remember). I'm not the worlds greatest gamer by a long shot (as anyone who's kicked my arse on Xbox Live will attest to) but I think if this is the most frustrating thing you've played, then you really need to play more games.

The game gives you all the tools and skills to get the job done. For me it was one of the rarity's where if you messed it up, then that's down to you and your timing.

To me it's all as crazy as people saying Hulk Davidson / Viewtiful Joe was impossible.

Gotta say I'm with Spatial on this one. He really isn't the world's greatest gamer ... er ... I mean Mirror's Edge punished you for your own mistakes.
