Played all of Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raiders. Only breifly played Uncharted to be fair but have watched plenty of videos, which all showed lots of shooting sections. Tomb Raider isn't about the gunplay.

Uncharted is comparable to Tomb Raider Legend as they both have climbing and puzzle sections broken up heavily by Gun shooting areas.

The original Tomb Raider and other entries in the series however are about climbing and exploration intercut with gun combat. If you appreciate Tomb Raider you do notice the diffrence between the series and other games such as Uncharted where they focus so much more on combat.

As Steven Poole mentioned awhile back, it'll be intresting to see if Crystal Dynamics are given the freedom to explore the possibility of a gun free Tomb Raider...

So I've played about an hour of this tonight, up to the room with the huge squid in it (!). Is it too early to say that this is one of the worst games I've ever played?

Graphically it's completely ordinary, the audio is INSANELY bass heavy in the caverns (Seriously, I've brought the volume down to a point that I can barely hear the ambient noise and the bass is still reverberating through my head) and I can honestly say I've had more camera and control issues in this hour than I've had in any other Tomb Raider game to date (Which admittedly isn't all of them, but a fair few).

I'm randomly falling off sections of the scenery, noticing often that if I'm not in a place that the game feels I should be jumping it the animations are different (By which I mean there seems to be a massive assist if you jump in the right areas... making working out where you should be able to jump awkward (If you ignore the bright ledges...)) and I've just witnessed the most insane auto-correction of a jump ever - the game pulling me round to the side of a pillar that I was stood in front of, even though it had a grab-able ledge on all sides.

All this is coming from someone who considers himself a fan of spending a few hours looking at Ms. Crofts' behind. I've just turned it off and I don't ever want to turn it back on again.

I dunno if I would go as far as saying it's not one of the worst games I've ever played but, yeah, Underworld is quite possibly the worst Tomb Raider game or even action/adventure game I have ever played. Compared to the likes of Uncharted it's just so archaic. I don't think I even finished it, just couldn't be bothered after a while.

I was hoping that upon reflection this morning I might be tempted to give it a go again, but no I still can't believe how badly this played last night.

I honestly never really had any problems with the control :S. The Core developed games on the other hand...

I'm another who had no problems with the controls and the few bugs I did encounter, while annoying, never threatened to detract from the overall experience. As for the repeated criticisms regarding leaps of faith, as others have already pointed out they seldom exist for those who take the time to properly explore and assess the environment - and that's precisely what Tomb Raider is all about.

The game's an unquestionable return to form in my opinion, a return to brilliant puzzles and a return to exploring beautifully designed and inspiring environments. Indeed I'd say it's the best Tomb Raider to date and one of the best adventure games released in a while.

Agreed! Still not as good as Anniversary, but on the whole a great puzzler. Little in the way of action, nice spacious environments with nice sprawling puzzles with little in the way of handholding. Loved it.

Count me down as another who didnt experience one bug, well, bar an acheivement glitched but that was my own doing!
