That is what all shooters offer though and what is pretty much the main point of shooting games otherwise they would be very boring

As i said how can one judge a game lacking one of the best MP components ever (from people in the Beta, people like you and me that have played it) and its full single story campaign is beyond me. Its an 8 minute demo! It just gives a taste.

I'm telling you there is fanboyism going on at play here. Sure not on everyone, but some people there is. I have seen it on other forums. You dont open a book halfway and read 4 pages and decide if its good without reading from the start.
This may all be true, but who's that fit bird you've got as your avatar?

Well that fit bird is the one and only Hayley Williams from Paramore She is the most hottest front woman in any band ever. Not to mention they are one of the best bands ever.

Halo offers much more than that. You have to quickly prioritise your target, take down shields, use the right weapons/nades/equipment. It constantly asks questions and keeps you on your toes. This demo was like the poorer parts of CoD - point and click and nothing else.

Regardless, the controls would have been enough to put me off. RFOM, Halo, TS - name pretty much any console shooter - control much beter than this.

All those games you mention though the main aim is still to shoot down the enemy to progress. Yes some gloss over that fact pretty well, the example of Halo you used is a good one I guess but the main aim is still the same.

To say the demo plays like the poorer parts of CoD (I assume you mean CoD4 as that is the one which people regard as the benchmark FPS) is not entirely a great comparison cos all you do in CoD is (yup you guessed it) point and shoot at the enemy. There are some set piece battles that gloss things over but whose to say there won't be any of those in Killzone 2?!

If you had an issue with controls and found it unplayable in that aspect then yeah maybe it is not for you, however there are plenty of different control schemes at offer.

Played it this morning and I don't get it. Just seemed like another average shooter. coupled with the edge review that seemed to sum up my impressions. I cant see myself rushing out to pay full price for this.

I only played it for 10 minutes - the controls were driving me nuts and my eyes struggle with dark bland games like this.

I will give it another try tomorrow but dont really expect my opinion to change. Even if I had the full game I doubt I could be arsed to complete it making it a pretty poor investment.

I'll no doubt pick this up come release but in all honesty, apart from some admittedly nice looking graphics, the demo doesn't really offer anything different from the majority of fps's.

That's not necessarily a bad thing, as I'm sure it'll be a fun game, but at the end of the day its just another fps so IMO it doesn't really deserve enormous praise.

I wasn't holding those games up as good examples of the genre. I also found rfom to be very average, but it at least didn't have such bizarly sluggish controls.

                      Fair enough.

I have another question though, what makes an FPS not "just another FPS"?

A fair point and reading back my last comment I don't really have an answer (In my defense I have been drinking).

My comment came across as overly negative I suppose, I love FPS's massively and I'm sure I will enjoy Killzone 2. I guess what I was trying to say was that IMO it doesn't really offer anything new and seems just to be a good looking fps that follows in the vein of those before.

There's certainly nothing in the demo to suggest any innovation aside from very nice GFX.

I didn't really enjoy the demo much.

Movement just seems a bit slow and to my eyes the field of vision felt kind of limited...almost like a 4:3 image stretched to 16:9 (which I know isn't the case). I also didn't really like the 'clear this area', 'operate that', 'cover me while I do this' nature of it. Technically it's very impressive but just seemed a bit unimaginative.

To be fair I'm not a big fan of shooters (with the exception of COD4) so probably not the best judge of these things.

I'm glad they brought out a demo, saved me having to buy the game to see how it looked.
Not that anyone will listent o my comments anyway, but I was a little dissapointed by the graphics, they looked much better in screenshots and lovely smoother out videos. Much like the first game , it clearly relies alot on excessive grain/bloom filters and other various posxt processing to make the game prettier than it is, not quite as revolutionary as I was expecting from the various slideshows I'd seen.
Playing it was quite fun though, felt like a slower paced COD4, my only real criticisms being that the enemies soak up bullets and the guns don't felt accurate enough or the ps3 pad/sticks arent the greatest for this kind of game , especially with the very smal amount of autoaim present.

Complaining that it's uminaginative is a bit like complaining Gran Turismo is unimaginitive isn't it? I mean, it's a war game.

So true Darwock. And worst of all is that it only happens with this game. I have never read a review for any other game that states it does nothing new.

CoD, Halo, or games from other genres like Gran Turismo. But they do excel in their genres, like so far, every review states this does. Why this is being singled out for this is beyond me. People want to hate this game. I dont know why. But its like they cant find much wrong with it, so you know, they must find a reason. And i guess that reason is it does nothing new. Because you can tell that from an 8 minute demo from the middle of a level, with no backstory or MultiPlayer.
Speaking of, Multiplayer is meant to be one of the best ever. CoD 4, the benchmark, single player campaign never did anything different, but people love it why? Multi-player. Now how many have played more than 8 minutes that was in the demo and tried Multiplayer? Raise your hands?
