This. Mind you, cue my fireball routine from Sagat

(and plenty of tiger knees for good measure)

I had one almighty turtling Guile earlier tonight before Seany decided to challenge me, nothing but the above or c.HP if you jumped in. So it resulted in tiger, tiger, tiger knee, tiger, tiger knee, tiger, EX tiger, tiger, tiger, EX tiger knee, eggs, bacon, beans, spam, tiger, spam, spam, tiger, spam, tiger knee, spam, spam, spam... can I have that without the spam? Urgggghhhhhh!

    You get the picture.

I'll admit the tigers are a powerful weapon in Sagat's arsenal and I do lob out a great many of them but it's all part of the mind games. If my opponent is merely waiting for me to come closer or jump in, then I'm not going to oblige them by co-operating. If they actually try to attack me properly, then it's a different matter and the rest of the move set comes out...

The insults are always after a heavy win and what your opponent perceives to be 'cheap' tactics. Scrubs. I should reply to every one of those players and link them to the scrub post by Seth Killian from a few years ago.

On a better note, my mate came over to give me a part to complete my mod of my Hori SFIV HRAP3, so it now has 100% Sanwa parts for the buttons and joysticks. I promptly played a few games to test it out and dragged myself into the G2 Championships by reaching 2000+ Grade Points.

I've been hearing from two friends who play the game a bit more than me about how G2 has far far superior players than G1. But then I proceeded to win all my games and win my very first final! There was one standout player, a 14000 pointer Balrog, but he didn't play like there was a huge gap between us. I whiffed my Ultras a few times (as a Sagat) and missed on opportunities to punish opponents at key moments, so I certainly rode my luck throughout the whole thing.

But the best part about it? My mate watching the entire thing unfold and shaking his head after every round pointing out to me my deficiencies in my game (which were all true). I'll leave the game for tonight, I won't live up to the euphoria of something like that for a long long time. I think I got 67000 CPs as well. Craziness....

This. So annoying. I hate playing Sagat players now as its all they seem to do.

What about those zangiefs who do lots of throws? hate them eh? Or those dhalsims using long range pokes? Come on, these are all dead basic tactics for these characters, it's been said before - learn to deal with it, every character has a way. If you can't figure it out, google it.

I find the insults much more amusing than annoying. Haven't got a k/b to use so can't be bothered replying, I like to imagine that winds them up more though

G2 certainly is a lot tougher than G1, though obviously it's constantly getting easier as more and more people get up there. A person's grade score isn't a perfect guide, since it rewards games played as much as skill, there's people in the 10k sort of bracket I can and have beaten repeatedly, but others lower down I can't.

Don't you guys mean G3, not G1? I've heard there aren't too many players in G1 rank yet.

Last night my Zangief had a horrible time against a decent Seth player that kept me at full screen distance the whole match, don't think 'gief has many options at all against the boss As soon as I get close he'll teleport or wall jump away, and a grappler can do anything from the other side of the screen. Saying that, I did manage to stun him in one hit with a HP headbutt that traded hits with his long arms, Seth's stun threshold is so low, same with his hit points.

So when a Guile lobs numerous Booms it's spam, but when you lob numerous tiger shots its mind games? Interesting...

Heh, i actually dont mind Zangief players! Not too troublesome so far. Im sure i will be eating my words soon enough though!

I understand what you are saying about finding tactics to counter these, but im just having a bit of a moan really in the meantime!

Its a slightly frustrating experience when you get beaten by somebody who you can tell pretty much plays every round with the same moves over and over, and makes things a tad boring. I sometimes wonder if these players are having a good time with the game. I guess they must be if they are winning a lot. For me though, i tend to feel guilty if im spamming the same tactic over and over, and invariably switch things up. Maybe thats me being stupid, but i like to actually, you know, play the game and try to use a fuller range of moves rather than sit there getting RSI from doing the same thing over and over!

Quite possibly im not very good at this though! The fact is, im still using the same characters i did over 10 years ago! I would love to get my hands on a fightpad actually. Any around at the moment for the 360?

The difference is that I'm usually looking to attack my opponent and come forwards. Most Guiles I've played just sit behind the booms and wait to counter in some way. Is that how the character is supposed to be played? Maybe. But it makes it a grinding bore. Same with all the Balrog and Blanka players who turtle, given both those characters do have plenty of decent offence. I think many players turtle with them because they don't have the skill to attack and link the charge moves into their combos and patterns at the same time...

Your opponent isn't there to please you, to fight how you want them to. Deal with it, or don't play it, because it's not going to change.

Seriously, if you don't like fireball spammers you are playing the wrong game online.

Definitely agree. As I've said before, I'll use "boring" tactics at times, but it gets interesting when they beat them (which most decent people will) and you have to keep changing. it's up to them to make me change though.

I don't have the skill to link charge moves into combos, I virtually never do anything above 2 hits, but I don't turtle. Doesn't mean I lack skill in other areas, timing, tactics, mind games. If someone does have the patience, timing, and reactions to turtle as blanka then fair play, it's certainly not easy. If you think it's an easy win with any character then you should try it and you'll soon see I reckon...

I suppose this could highlight a difference between someone who turtles because they don't know how to play any better, and someone who turtles because impenetrable defense is their style.

Iyo's Dhalism is a prime example of how to turtle like a pro, if that sentence doesn't sound too much like an oxymoron...

I personally think it highlights just how much people take this game too seriously!

I had the most satisfying fight of my "online CV" the other day. It was a first round Champion match and I was E Honda vs a Ken.

The Ken was very good, but he was cocky with it. The first round he pasted me fair and square, but in the second every time he knocked me over he would taunt. This just made me fight harder. Despite him having my energy down to the last quarter and his bar untouched I fought a remarkable comeback and beat him.

Down to the final round, and it was tight, but my Honda overcame and I took the match! It was my greatest online victory and I only wish I could have seen my opponents face!

                            ^ Nice one mate!!

It's one thing to taunt at particular times but that guy was getting way too cocky and deserved that loss!

G2 is very very fun compared to G3. The general standard is much higher and you shouldn't expect easy wins at all. There aren't too many quitters and winning a tournament is genuinely an achievement.

I just had a very odd game against an Akuma player. The game was completely lagless besides 2 specific moments when it went laggy as hell on my end and both times he landed an Ultra. I've heard about lag switches but always thought they were a myth until I googled them just now. Thankfully I still won

i havent heard of these devices before.
but a couple times in the last few days i've noticed a connection get very laggy at rather inopportune times, when the opponent has a decent lead for example.
certainly enough to wonder if people were somehow doing it on purpose.
