    No. I refuse to!

You won't like it, Jeeb. Personally, I like it as an additional competitive (against strangers) ranking mode. Along with the inclusion of the Final Battle replays.
You are right though, I don't like it. Had a really long week so perhaps not the best time to try something new in the game but I don't like it very much. Blind select is nice, but that should have been in there to begin with in ranked matches, now I'm more used to having people select who they think will beat the char I choose.

It's set up well, don't get me wrong, but the time spent making replays (which is a nice feature) should have been spent making the actual online experience better, ie putting lobbies in, letting you have a tourney with friends etc.

Nice try Capcom, but to be honest I'm losing patience with the game. I want multiplayer lobbies in line with other games that managed to do it, where my friends and I can play and watch each other, laughing our nuts clean off etc.

The ping ratings are better but (irony upon irony) it still takes 10 attempts to get a "quick match" to actually work.

Oh and rather hilariously, in my first EVER championship match I also encountered my first ever true fireball spammer, which (through the aforementioned tiredness) made me ****ing angry.

Overall it's gets a shoulder shrug from me. This game won't even give me a courtesy reacharound at the moment and that makes me a sad panda.

i dont understand why they wont let us all save any replay we like.... not to upload or anything, just for our own personal gratification.
i'd love to have a whole load on my hard drive, all it needs to do is save the inputs and the other persons name.

this tournament thing seems quite pointless now. i assumed it would create a bracket and make you play each match you were in, while others played theirs. i knew we wouldnt be able to watch the others, but being able to set one up with spare slots for friends would have been great.

i still love the game, but in the end this update is just meh, apart from the droppers thing.

I've no doubt that capcom will eventually get all the lobby wishes and stuff in the future. The game seems to have been successful enough and many people like yourself are crying out for them.

ahh to be honest i was expecting more from early on....capcom were talking about like it was back to the old arcades way of things

So i was expecting people could play against each other non stop not have keep inviting etc

actually bit like the dead or alive 4 Lobbys (shame the lag was so Bad on that)

Someone needs to explain this to me...

Now, with the championship update, it just seems to be a variant of the 'ranked match'? where there's a little progression in the form of mini-tournaments, compared to one off matches to build up your Battle Points.
Instead now it's championship points to build up your grade?

So essentially you're still playing 'ranked' matches, but playing for different points?
And what's the point (serious question) in that?

              /rhetorical question

              *shrugs shoulders*

Might as well, just kept it within the confines of ranked matches instead of creating a new mode for the sake of it.

              Thanks capcom.
              Worth the wait.

I was really hoping to get a lobby system where you can meet up with more players/friends and have a good fight/laugh.. I really love this game, IMO the best fighting game since SoulCalibur, but the lack of a proper lobby system made me play it less and less the last few weeks... I know I have A LOT to learn in the game, but I rather learn it by playing against friends instead of going through the practice challenges in the game...

I can understand if there isn't a lobby system to prevent lag in the fights, like in DOA4 someone with a bad connection joined the lobby all others sufferd for it...

Ranked match - you just play randoms, and each game "counts" as far as scores go.

Championship matches - you play someone who's more or less a random in the first round, but only if they're in the same grade as you, so should be more evenly matched.
In the subsequent rounds anyone you play must have won at least 1,2,3,4 matches in a row, so is likely to be of a higher standard than that first fight. So as you go through a championship you're more likely to be playing better players. Again, each game "counts" as far as scores go.
                  That's the difference.

To be honest I think I'll still prefer player match, I don't really give a toss about online rankings, and it means I can vary my character and my opponent will too. Champ mode should guarantee a better standard of opponent though, but not until it's been out for a while and people have played enough to have a realistic ranking. At the moment there's going to be shedloads of good players at the bottom still cause they haven't had time to win enough.

So what is Capcom's excuse for the horrendous lag in the normal ranked or player matches when they AREN'T against people you know?

                    Comment

The excuse is physics, they're a long way away from you and it takes time for any signal to travel there and back. It's a pretty good excuse really.
That, and your/their ISP having more traffic it can handle quickly.

...and the difference between that and playing matches with your friends, in lobbies, all watching each other.

We all know the real reason is that they'll charge for SFIV : Ultimate Mingebusters Edition at a later date.

Managed to win another Free last evening before I went out, although the final was arse clenchingly tight. I uploaded the video of that if anyone in my friends list wants to go check it out. Hats off to my opponent, playing Viper they were actually pretty good. I think they probably wondering how they lost the match...

True, I'd like proper lobbies but this system is going to be used by Capcom to assess how well people do online for their invite tournaments (and the first being the "European" competition next month) so I figure I will be playing in this format most of the time now (though I might try to push my BP back over 3000 again).
Lie with passion and be forever damned...

I had a wee shot of the upadate last night. It seems ok, but all these weeks of hype have left me deflated. It's just a tarted up ranked match!

It's a shame they didn't include the traditional knock out format as well, as was included in the HD Xbox live arcade version.

                              second!!

i've been playing this and the new mode, imho, the new mode is just what racked matches should have been. The lobbies like those in HD are still what we need. If Capcom think it has a large online user base at the moment just thnk what the user base and sales could have been if they had lobbies in there.

The Championship Mode patch for Street Fighter 4 not only added new features for match making and rankings, but it also tweaked a few of the character's moves. There is no official list on what exactly was changed, but ...

Was that in the patch notes?
