So, I guess the fact people are posting links to physical megadrive emulators means that there is nothing 'Ultimate' about this collection after all... oh well

The Megadrive bit is really good - S3&K not withstanding. There aren't any obvious emulation problems in any of the games I'm familiar with and the game list is pretty huge. For the price, it's great value.

Space Harrier is a disappointment for me, as I know the game so well and the emulation is clearly pretty ropey. The other arcade games that I've unlocked seem much better, though.

It's a shame to read about the problems with Space Harrier. I just wish Sega could get it's act together across regions and stop replicating work that has already been perfected elsewhere.

Sega Japan had a perfect emulation of Space Harrier arcade on the PS2 Space Harrier Complete Collection yet it seems like Backbone had to reinvent the wheel (probably because they weren't allowed to use the previous work) so we end up with a poorer quality version this time around.

I didn't have any issues with Space Harrier. Looked pretty spot on to me.

As for the unlockables you have

                  Master System
                  Phantasy Star
                  Golden Axe Warrior

                  Arcade
                  Alien Breed
                  Altered Beast
                  Congo Bongo
                  Fantasy Zone

It's really obvious on the title screen. Watch the logo scale in and compare it to the arcade version. It keeps jumping sideways rather than smoothly scaling up in place.

The graphical glitches are minor compared to the utterly wrong audio, though.

sounds identical to the sega ages version I have. maybe i'm just getting old. Anyway for 63 pence I've hardly going to moan...

Are you playing the PS3 US version? Maybe it's different in different versions or something? The Sega Ages versions are spot on and don't sound anything like the version I have. The Giant Bomb review mentions it too, so it's not just me going mad.

It's not a huge problem anyway, as I've got the Space Harrier Complete collection on PS2, and it's not exactly the main focus of this compilation, which is otherwise great. I was mostly put in a bad mood by having to play bloody Thunderblade to unlock it

Yeah that's not aged well at all...

I think it's a really fantastic compilation. Sure you could moan about the sonic knuckles issue and that many of these games have been available on past systems but I still think it's incredible value for money.

Christ I would have paid £20 just for shinobi, the fact it has 47 other games on it just sweetens the deal for me.

Picked this up today and am pleased with it overall as its got a nice selection of games, though a bit dissapointed at the lack of a few key arcade games such as Outrun, Afterburner and Hang On.

Personally I prefer having the graphics filter on, especially with a HD tv I think its quite ugly without it.

Main gripe so far is the sound effect, notably on Sonic 3 first level when the ship drops bombs overhead it just sounds really bad.

The interviews are abysmal. Most of them have a general lack of enthusiasm, one in fact is promoting PSU throughout which has nothing to do with this collection whats so ever.

Is it just me or is the sound on Space Harrier way off, even the Get Ready voice sounds at a much higher pitch, plus all the sound effects are just not right.

Im used to playing it on Sega Ages on Saturn so maybe that was slightly enhanced.
