Tried it three times now with little luck. The last time I took some Sticky White Stuff, only to find that it couldn't be used on my blade. Anyone know what it can be used on?

It can be used on any weapon that doesn't already have a magic attack or fire attack attribute... presumably you were using a dragon long sword or something?

That's why upgrading a weapon to +10 using regular hardstones or sharpstones can be better than using one of the more specialised ores, because a +10 weapon can still be enchanted (using magic or sticky white stuff/turpentine) to make it even stronger. A dragon/crescent weapon can't be temporarily enhanced.

Was using the Falchion +1 that you find on that level. I'm sure it doesn't have any magic properties, but will try other weapons anyway.

The only Falchion type blade I remember finding was a Crescent Falchion, in which case it does already have magic attack properties.

Having that equipped will regen your magic a little bit. Dunno about any other magic damage though.

Ah, yes, it is a crescent weapon now that I look.

Managed to defeat the boss on my fourth attempt anyway. Just had to cycle around him anti-clockwise, rather than the other way, and it became much easier.

Just beat the Flamelurker with the help of another player. The guy died just moments before we beat the boss, though. Twas pretty tragic.

Picked up a couple of natty shields recently (Purple Flame and Steel) but a message says I'm not good enough to use them yet. By that does it mean my soul level isn't high enough, or strength, what?

Went toe to toe with the Armoured Spider last night and managed to beat it first go ... my heart was pounding

That means your stats don't meet the requirements to use them properly, it's probably Str your missing.

You can see the required stats when you examine armour/weapons.

I've started all over again on my US copy now.. so good to be back in it

No notable differences apart from some of the in game vocabulary (they changed 'splinter' to 'shard'.. er why bother, and 'will' is now 'intelligence').

I'm having a dilemma with my character progression though - I want to build an all out mage this time but still debating whether or not to leave stamina/health/strength etc at their base levels. Pumping souls into strength would let me use a bow but as I discovered the first time, jack of all trades is really a waste of time. Leaving my health at it's starting value will be a real test of my experience haha
