Americans suck!! I was going about my plan to get the monk's head collar, hid my soul sign in Latria and got called upon within 3 minutes.

The guy came in with anti-magic field, but I was using the makoto so one hit took him down to 50% - he stopped to use herbs, and just as I was gonna finish him off he yanked his ethernet cable ><

Not once in all the dozens of times I played the asian version did anybody chicken out of the fight like that, and on the US version it happens first bloody time!

Now I'm not getting summoned. Bah!

edit - got summoned again after about 15 minutes, and this time the guy died at the hands of the enemies before he made it up the stairs. Exactly as I'd hoped, and why I kept my level low before trying it

I've only been invaded once so far. I crapped myself for a bout two minutes but the guy never even found me and I received a message saying that he'd died. Weird.

False king is a nightmare! He's killed me 6 times already!

Well, he is the final boss.

How can that be? He's on level 1! He's already taken 2 souls levels off me!

He's not on level 1, he's on world 1! Didn't you notice you needed to beat at least one of the arch demons to get access to the end of that area? That ought to tell you something...

I'd had a wee breaky from this due to MW2 and A Boy and His Blob, and was worried I wouldn't be able to adjust to this fella again. After a wonky first few minutes of using MW2's controls to do Soul based things, I was right back in there.

That's another thing I love about this, there's no story fluff to re-digest, no pointless next-gen features, just a simple yet compelling game that's a joy to return to. My GOTY I think.

Quick couple of (possibly stupid) questions though. I've noticed folks referring to levels as 1-1, 2-1 etc. How do you guys know which level is which? Is it just an inkling based on difficulty?...It's just I'm not finding any numbers in the actual game.

One last thing. I've just beat Fool's Idol twice in a row and the lady just won't cough up those souls, and a strange voice had a right old chuckle at me. I then had a bit of an explore and

found this suspicious fella on the floor above who I'm guessing has something to do with her not dying. Can I beat her properly if I kill the guy?

                Cheers, folks.

Ah! Cheers for that. I still haven't explored anything past world 1 and 2!

It's an arbitrary numbering system, not from the game itself but just got adopted into common usage by t'interwebs. Boletaria is world 1 (cos it's the first one you go to) and each stage afterwards is numbered clockwise according to the positions on the archstone diagram (so Stonefang is world 2).

It's got no relevance to difficulty at all really, as each stage has it's own particular dangers.

I'm 95% done, just got to beat the Old Monk and False King, but after murdering the entire population of the Nexus I don't want to continue until I've restored my character tendency to white - only way I can do that is by killing black phantoms online, and as all my worlds are finished I need to do it in someone elses game. Maybe it's the time difference but I'm just not finding the US version half as busy as the Asian one - in that I would rarely have to wait more than a minute before I got summoned - tonight I gave up without getting anywhere

Got all the max weapon upgrades sorted though! I just need to get the spiderstone and cloudstone pick-ups on my next game cycle (can't be bothered farming for them in this one)

Oops missed this last night - you are correct in your assumptions

Usually there are lots of messages to tip you off about that one, are you playing offline or is the US player base short of hints as well as etiquette?

Smashing. Cheers for both of those.

I had an epic session on this yesterday...I don't usually like to spend massive amounts of time on a game, but I hit such a nice run of boss defeats and levelling up that I found it quite hard to stop playing the darned thing. Think I beat about 4 bosses, including my first Arch Demon.

I love how From Software use really simple but nifty techniques to pile on the atmosphere...3-2 and 5-2 (hope I've got that right) are just so creepy and intense. The far-off flickering lights, those ambient drones that get gradually louder as you near something unhealthy. Man, it's more survival horror than Resi 5 that's for sure. The cavernous temples in 4-2 and those Shadowy Death Whisps that make whale noises are an atmospheric treat too.

Finding 2-2 (the section after Armoured Spider) a bit of a slog with all the big lads in the narrow tunnels (my sword is so useless against them it takes a good 5 minutes to drop one). I think my lack of magic skills is having a negative effect against these flame ridden beasties. Still not found the next boss but I must be close in the areas I've been.

Thinking I might check another area and come back to 2-2 when I can kill the big bugs easier.

That section requires a leap of faith at the very end if you want to find the boss area.

and there is a short cut that lets you skip the tunnels completely - tad risky though if you don't know what you're doing!

I think I know the area you mean. And yes, I died jumping down a couple of times before sacking it off and going the other way.

Another failure of a night attempting to get online play

In total I was on for about two and a half hours, just running around areas waiting for my sign to get noticed. I think I got called up 4 or 5 times, only two of those were successful (people really have no clue how to survive the Old Hero, do they?). None of those hosts had any invasions either, which was the only reason I was joining them.

When it was successful I went to the only invade-able stage I haven't cleared yet (1-4) with my new body form and stood around waiting for a black phantom, but nobody ever came. By my reckoning it was 10pm to midnight in the US, that should be a busy time. I'm kind of regretting getting rid of my asian version.

I really want to get my character tendency back to white before I continue, so I can use the demonbrandt in the beginning of NG+. I'm just stuck somewhere in the shades of grey right now.. no good for soulbrandt either.

Anyone here got a character around level 60 (and access to 1-4) that they want to use to spar with me? Invasions seem so rare that it wouldn't take long to get into the same game.
