    Assassin's Creed

Been playing this for a couple of hours now and am enjoying it alot. It starts off very slowly, with a few tutorial missions but get through them and you are into the game properly. Not going to give anything away in detail but the whole concept of the story is revealed pretty early on and some people might be disappointed as that being done so early on but from what I have read the story gets more and more interesting with more juicy moments. To be honest I think it is a good move because it sets up the story and lets the player know early on what they are in for. The whole thing with the

fast fowarding missions and going back to real world didn't really break anything up for me so far.

    I mean

it has got this whole sci-fi matrix vibe going on and I think it is done really well. This "company" is only interested in certain parts of Desmond's/Altair's memories and that can only be portrayed by this whole fast forwarding device.

    Also

it is left to you (the player) to fill in the blanks with your imagination as to what happened between one memory and another

, maybe it is just me but I think it is a great little plot device and moves things along well.

Gameplay wise the game is very good, the controls take a while to get used to but it doesn't take that long and once you're on par with them you will controlling Altair with all the grace of a smooth assassin. Jumping/climbing around is just done simply by holding RT + A and depending where you are you will either cling on to a ledge (PoP style) or jump across some planks. Sword combat is the one thing that might take a while to get used to as it can be a bit clunky at first, mainly due to the duel trigger system. RT to block and LT to lock on, sometimes I would just press one and not the other but after fights with a few guards at the start (and the handy combat training ring) I have pretty much got the sword combat sussed out. The sword based combat is best described as a matter of patience and timing, countering is the best way to take enemies out with one single blow and the way I would recommend dispatching foes. You can also go the "hack n slash" way but more often than not it will result in death or, if you're lucky, just most of your health getting taken away. Stealth stuff is beautifully done, think of a cross between MGS and Splinter Cell I have only done one sneaky mission so far but I can say I thoroughly enjoyed it, it involved

eavesdropping, pick pocketing and eventually outing a traitor to the Creed.

Graphically it is one of the most impressive "next-gen" games out there right now. I haven't had any hint of slowdown or tearing so far, fingers crossed it stays that way! The sheer detail on screen is stunning at times, with villagers and guards walking about their business in very believable towns/cities.

It was one of my most anticapted games of the year and so far it is a big thumbs up from me I don't think this will be a game for everyone out there though, I can see some gamers giving up after a couple of hours or so due the slow start of the game but once you get through it there a top game on the other side.

Is the game quite stealth orienated then? I mean yeah I know you play a stealthy assasin but is there variety too it? Its either this or Super Mario Galaxy on friday and I'm not a very big fan of stealth in games unless theres lots more to them as well so would help me decide if I knew.

You can play it anyway you choose to play it mate. Being stealthy has its obvious advantages but you can choose to go be a bit more action oriented if you want. This is not super super stealthy like MGS or Splinter Cell but if you're not into this genre then I'm not sure this will persuade you otherwise to be really honest.

                lol.

Played it for a bit today, and really enjoyed it - even though it takes a while to get going.

I like how they've taken loads of good aspects from various big games - Fable, Crackdown, MGS come to mind. It handles great, and the fluidity of the leaping around and climbing are as good that of Crackdown.

I have this on order for the 360. IGN seem to dislike it and GS says it's great. Hmmm

Yeh both TeamXbox and IGN have given it so-so reviews, mainly pointing to repetitive mission structure and some rough edges.

Still I hear this is region free so worth an import cheap!

Can i ask what this 'tearing' is all about? I keep reading about it but have no real idea about what it is. Is it like pop up back in the Saturn days and Daytona?

I noticed in the videos that were released had this lighting and darkening effect, which i assume is related to the clouds in the sky. It was kinda annoying when watching the vids but does it affect the game when you are playing?

Tearing is when the graphics go out of sync with your TV, it happens alot in first person games thats why they often include a V-sync option on the PC to make it better. It happens In 360 games quite often actualy but seems to be less abundant on the PS3 (or at least I havent noticed it on any so far), so if it bothers you maybe you should get that version of the game if you can.

Think I heard the PS3 version has a slightly smoother framrate too for that matter.

Regardless of which ever version is better i was always going to get teh ps3 version as i dont own a 360
