    Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 (PES 2010) [360/PS3/PC]

    FIRST !

may as well have a first play for this, if nothing else it will give somewhere for all the FIFA people to post.

really hard to judge a new Pro Evo on a couple of plays as the experience is very deep, takes a good while to see if its great or knackered.

as always i love the feel, its far slower than last years and seems to reward patient play, dribbling and the thru ball seem to have been really toned down.

can't find the cards that were mentioned, though there are some sliders for the team as a whole.

concerned its a little clunky in places but apparently this isn't latest code, I suspect they got rushed into a demo for this with the FIFA timespan and didn't want that on the shelves before their demo.

I don't believe there is anything in either footy game this year that would steal a punter away from one to the other, they both feel prettty solid to me with personal preference deciding the issue.

I played the FIFA demo while this was downloading.

I put this on and within ten seconds it felt faster and more responsive. No silly animations, no gliding around the pitch, no beach ball. I don't really want players slip-sliding around ultra-realistically when they get tackled. I don't want players getting muscled off the ball all the frigging time. I don't want to execute some contrived button combo to simply beat a man, because Altintop is apparently too slow. I don't want to see a player rolling around on the pitch for 10 seconds as play carries on around him. That's about as fun as a fisting.

I like the fact that the players in this game feel planted on the turf. I like the fact you can recover from getting battered off the ball quite quickly. My god, the fast players are fast! And there's a bit of room on the pitch! You're not getting hassled after half a second of overly-long-animated, far too realistic ball control. The shots were rather slow-feeling, but maybe I'm too used to a Bos power blaster, and Fabregas is a bit of a wet blanket. But the ball actually feels like you're kicking something. Decent visuals, too.

But ... I know it's a demo but the menus and stats screens are bloody hideous. It's just a barrage of weird icons and numbers, all far too cluttered and disorganised.
Also, the analogue movement feels a bit locked compared to FIFA.
      No commentary???
And crap offside decisions, proved wrong by their own red line, are still there. Like FIFA, in certain areas it's sometimes too realistic to be fun.

Do you mean more responsive than Fifa? If so how? PES is pretty unresponsive in demo form. Very clunky.

Strangely I thought thought the evo demo felt slower and less responsive.

Guess it's all down to opinions at the end of the day.

It's the animations really. If I want to do a quick turn, it just happens, there's no prolonged animation to have to factor-in, with inertia and weight shift flying all over the place.
As far as the button press-pass thing is, well, maybe it's not quite as quick as FIFA to respond, but it's at a comfortable level for what I'm used to, and with the little bit of extra space on the pitch, it doesn't really matter. The players on PES have always ran oddly, in an arcadey way, and Messi's legs are going like a Scooby Doo cartoon, just a whirling blur, and it's maybe this that causes the passing animation to take that split second longer than FIFA to execute? As I say, though, I'm used to it so it doesn't really matter to me. Both games have problematic animations as far as I'm concerned, but I find the FIFA problem of turning animation (far too realistic!) to be more of a problem than PES' passing slowness, especially due to the extra space, the speedier players, and the ability to change direction easily.

I dont think being used to something is perhaps a good thing though. Its a flaw that needs addressing. I like the pitch size but im not sure if its too big or not!! Or is fifa too small.

Out of interest how do you struggle with the fifa turning animation?

I think it's a flaw that fits in with the slightly arcade nature of the game though, with the faster runners and more open spaces. I'm wondering what difficulty level the game is set at because it does feel quite open at the minute.

re, turning animations, It's so real it feels really slow and cumbersome. I'll give the demo another go and see if I can articulate it better.

Grrr one thing FIFA is definitely better at is freedom to move towards a through ball. PES has suffered from the old Trains Tracks Syndrome forever. If someone plays a through ball I want to be able to break my run and intercept it, not be inextricably locked onto meeting up with it at it's final destination, like me and the ball are only allowed to meet at the top of an imaginary triangle.

Cant you hold R2 to pull away from the run?

I know what prinny means about feel, even with teh same button layout I'm just so much more comfortable in PES than FIFA. Its ceased to be about better or worse now but both games have a quite different feel (there's that word again).

you can super cancel in PES and have total freedom of the player, great for confusing human opponents too as you run round one side of them and let the ball go the other !

To be fair, that's new to Fifa 10. In 09 you had the "auto" thingy where you were stuck in a "running in that direction" animation. You could cancel with the super cancel but it was a pain.

Is this demo a full 90 mins btw? What teams also? I'm kinda sick of downloading demos that are over a bloody Gig in size!

Thats an odd one for me. Due to the flaw in the original PS1 game when playing 2 player coop you couldnt use 2 button config. So due to my cousin i had to have..

                            Square- Dash
                            X - Shoot
                            O - Pass
                            Tri - Lob
                            R1- Through

So after using it for....about ten years I got used to that but when I played it on 360 I couldnt use it for some reason so I started using default. Im now used to te Fifa setup but with the alternate controls but still R2 as dash like Fifa.

Agree with Myth this felt a lot less responsive and felt like it was on auto pilot. Didn't feel like i was partaking in the game at all just pressing a series of buttons. The animation still feel pretty outdated to me also. That being said still a decent game but not enough to persuade me back to the pro evo fold
